More on "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight".....  Also in the chorus, I *always* had
Lyrics on the intertubes are not always correct.

Tell me about it.  Have you seen their Louie, Louis lyrics video?

Billy Joel's "Don't Ask Me Why" sounds more like "Don't AXE Me Why"...

Just heard the Buckingham's "Kind of a Drag" on the radio today and realized that 46 years after it was a hit, I still had no idea what the second line of the song is. "Kind of a drag / When you beh beh beh badoo"? Just looked it up on YouTube; those words never even crossed my mind!

46 years and that trumpet ain't in tune yet.  Grin

It's been even longer for the trumpet on "When a Man Loves a Woman," and nearly as long for the one on "Everlasting Love."

How about The Mamas and the Papas, California Dreamin'-- "on such a winter's day..." I used to hear it this way: "...I thought you'd wait a day..."

Another tricky lyric line from both Brook Benton & Dusty Springfield on You Don't Have to Say You Love Me-- "You don't have to say you love me,
? just because of that?
? just stay close at hand ?
? just because I'm fat ?
? just because I'm flat ?"

Who can solve this riddle?

The Mamas & the Papas, to me, were infamous as far as having I guess what you'd call multitracking & layers of voices to where often the actual lyrics are camouflaged.  "I Saw Her Again" is a good culprit of this, and when you listen in stereo to "California Dreamin'", near the end, it sounds as if either Cass or Michelle dragged out "dreeeeee------minnnnnnn" in the backup.  It has me thinking maybe something "between the lines" is there (like Peter, Paul & Mary sing out-front about in "I Dig Rock 'n' Roll Music").

First line of "That's the Way of the World" by Earth, Wind and Fire is:

"Hearts of fire creates love desire"

Always sounded to me like:

"Fight the fire, teenage love desire."
