WRXP up for sale again??
« on: September 26, 2012, 07:01:26 AM »

Insideradio.com is running a story today that the financial backers of Merlin Media are quitely shopping around for buyers, in an effort to recoup the $153 million they have invested in the acquisition of four stations in NY, Chicago and Philadelphia, including of course WRXP.

Strange, they just changing formats.

A more successful station that's cheaper to run is more valuable than one at the bottom of the list. It's also not very clear from the summary if the stations are really for sale, or the majority stake is.

Perhaps this explains why Merlin has been running WRXP out of its home location in Chicago, and has not been promoting the station.
It will be interesting if another owner takes over, whether they retain the alternative rock format.

Bad news for Family Radio if true.  Who's going to want 94.7 when 101.9 is available?

Keep in mind that it's not Merlin, but the investment company that provided Merlin its funding.  That's a very different thing.  It's possible that Randy Michaels and his group can just find themselves with different investors, but still running the same stations.

It's a slightly better market now for selling stations.  Especially in New York.

Bah, there's finally a good sounding modern rock station on the air in New York and it will most likely get blown up now.

Just as we just got an Alternative Rock station they have to sell it?! Why?! I say sell it to Citadel make it Alternative as New Rock still or sell it to Greater Media or Entercom or Pamal. They just changed formats too and I heard they were adding DJs in October and slowly transitioning it to just NYC.
