Who will take on Rock in New York?
« on: October 08, 2012, 08:44:14 PM »

Whoever decided this decision to change 101.9 to Sports is an idiot. I really am extremely angry over this. CBS you didn't learn the first time don't kill rock in our city.
Will CC flip Power or KTU?
Will Cumulus buy 92.3 from CBS?
Will CBS sell 92.3 or 102.7?
Will someone buy 99.5 or 94.7?
WHY CAN'T THIS CITY EVER HAVE A ROCK STATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll answer your questions.
1. No.
2. No.
3. No.
4. Maybe, but that's no guarantee they'll flip either to Alternative.
5. Seems it just keeps winding up in the hands of struggling companies and the stable ones just aren't looking to flip anything.

This city has stations too female oriented. NOTHING is for the males. It's not right at all. 101.9 was perfect because it was for men & women. What can I go back to listening? Oh wait I can't receive a signal from any rock station because NYC radio market sucks!

I actually agree with everything you are saying. I thought it was great that alternative rock was back on New York radio, and I am likewise displeased by this news today.

The reason I didn't recall that CBS had killed K-Rock on WXRK was because the station was an underperformer. Howard Stern carried that station during its first rock incarnation. The ratings fell off a cliff after his show concluded. CBS brought rock back, but it wasn't executed well, so the ratings at WXRK once again were poor, thus making the decision to kill it a second time an easy one for CBS Radio. Not to mention CBS saw an opportunity to challenge Clear Channel's WHTZ which faced no serious competition during most of its existence. 92.3 Now has been a good idea, but it, likewise, has not been executed properly, so in the fight with Z, it's doing a lot of floor kissing.

Now has been crap since Cannon left. Their station is a mess. Whats with KTU they don't need to be here as long as there's Now FM and Z.

Because all things considered KTU's ratings are still really high?

XCountry, if being able to hear alternative rock on New York radio means that much to you, how about investing about $50 on an HD radio?

WFUV 90.7 HD3= The Alternate Side (also carried 6 am-noon on WNYE 91.5).
WXRK 92.3 HD2- K-Rock.
WWFS 102.7 HD2- Last FM
WAXQ HD2 104.3- The Alternative Project.

CBS should keep 101.9's rock and put the sports on 92.3! New Rock had a huge ratings jump but I guess ratings dont mean anything anymore since thats an indicator of what people actually want to listen to Roll Eyes

KTU yea their ratings are high. But think about how they are eating into their sister station's #s?! Power and Z's both of them. it's a waste. Why the hell would you have 2 stations in the same market owned by the same company reporting to Mediabase as CHRs?! Detroit had that same problem but that was fixed when 106.7 switched to rock! To a real legit station that was NEEDED! Adele, Rihanna, & Kanye are WELL covered in NYC on EVERY SINGLE STATION!

Quote
According to a memo apparently sent by Merlin CEO Randy Michaels to employees and obtained by Billboard, the sale retired significant amounts of debt from the company's balance sheet. Going forward, Merlin is supposedly in a much healthier position and plans to not only keep operating its current properties in Chicago and Philadelphia, but is also searching for potential acquisitions.

Maybe Merlin could by 94.7 and move RXP to it.
