Another hole is Urban AC but Cumulus is not known for such a format.

I don't see how Urban AC is a hole anyway since WBLS already has the format covered.  If there was room for 2 Urban AC stations then WRKS would have kept that format.
Not true.

The demise of "98.7 Kiss" had nothing to do with having no room for 2 Urban stations. It had EVERYTHING to do with Disney wanting an FM stick for ESPN and not owning it. Emmis keeps the frequency and ESPN programs it for 10 years.

It just may be the business model of the future.

Actually, what you say is not true, Jeff.  The demise of 98.7 had to do with Emmis needing the cash, and the disappointing billing of Kiss.  There was not room for two Urban AC stations. The demos are too old, and it was easier (and cheaper) to throw in the towel than to try and build something new.

There is room for 2 Urban ACs in Philadelphia, Washington,DC,Charlotte and Atlanta but not NYC? I dont know about that.

98.7 Kiss' demos were 50 to dead. PD Jay Dixon wanted nothing to do with anyone under 45. Heavy 1974-1979 playlist.

I don't have the demographic breakdowns in front of me, but isn't it possible that the cities you list have a higher percentage of African Americans than NYC?

Going from StationRatings.com (and also including the other recently mentioned markets)...

Charlotte -- slightly over 22%

Philadelphia -- a little under 21%

NYC -- slightly over 17%

Atlanta -- a little under 34%

D.C. -- slightly over 27%

I'm guessing NYC has a much larger Hispanic population than all of those cities, which is why we have 4 Spanish stations.  I don't have time to look it up but I doubt the other cities have that many.

Not unless you liked John McGill, George Beverly Shea, Mahalia Jackson, Brooklyn Tabernackle Choir, and The Pilgrim Jubilee. But no most people while maybe they are aware of some religious station on 94,7 they have no idea of what they are like or what they play. so yes they will have to be made aware of them. Country would immediatly give the station listeners as would rock if it happens the day we lose WRXP. Rock or Country are the 2 best bets for this frequency.

Or maybe you should go to the Hudson Valley area and listen to Family Radio at 91.7 which is WFRH or listen online. I don't listen to Family Radio because of Camping's failed doomsday predictions from last year.

I was about to say L.A., but Bongwater brought it up.  Can't rule out the Miami-Ft Lauderdale market either. Smiley

Perhaps in addition to country and alternative rock, a Jack FM type format could also do well on 94.7.
Jack had decent ratings in New York on 101.1, but was dropped because indications were that classic hits could do even better on the frequency once PPM was implemented. I enjoy the variety of rock and large play lists that Jack stations offer. Lots of alternative rock songs are typically included.
An example of a Jack station owned by Cumulus in the Kansas City market is linked below.

There are rumors that Cumulus is considering FM talk and placing Savage on it. With the intent of eventually adding other big name conservative talks as thier current contracts expire (i.e. Rush and Hannity).
