former WNEW-AM PD Passed Away
« on: October 17, 2012, 04:02:21 PM »

Russ Knight, born Russ Lee Moore who programmed WNEW from 1979-1981 passed at the age of 80.

Knight came to WNEW in 1979 when the station was under performing as an AC station. In October the Make Believe Ballroom  was revived with William B. Williams, and in the winter of 1980 WNEW had its biggest surge in the rating  playing Big Bands and Pop Vocal Standards with a  3.1 share placing it in the top 10 ratings in New York.

Knight was better known in Texas when he was a top 40 DJ on  two  radio stations  in 1965  on KLIF in Dallas and KLIT in Houston where he introducted the Beatles. Knight  was known as the Wierd Beard.

Knight was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
