Go even further north in upstate NY and you can get 102.7 WEQX. One of the best alternative stations in the country, IMO.
Also, WFNX has "relaunched" online. They may be worth a try.

Such a bummer this station is leaving. As someone who grew up listening to Z100 in its alternative form and then in 95/96 switched to Q104.3, X107 and, finally, K-Rock. At the time I remember liking K-Rock because they didn't play any of the "weird" stuff but, ironically of course, as I grew older and my tastes grew more diverse in the alternative field, I really resented them playing retro rock, AC/DC and other active rock nonsense.
I've since grown up and am now one of those semi-music snobs who downloads, reads blogs and really doesn't have much use for an FM dial. That being said, I would often sleep with the station on when I wasn't in the mood to listen to anything and was amazed at how well programmed the station was. What everyone fails to realize about alternative/rock stations these days is they are NOT for the super passionate music fans. Fans like me/us have long abandoned that format. What those stations ARE for are people who have a mild interest in new music, like hearing their 90's golds and are open to exploring new acts like M83, Of Monsters & Men, AWOLnation, Passion Pit, Black Keys, etc. For whatever reason, it is being replaced by a station that we ALREADY HAVE for a format that targets (in my mind) people 40+ (I can't name one person in my demo of 25-34 who listens to sports radio, feel free to prove me wrong).
I am curious if anyone remembers what K-Rock did, at it's best, in its day without the Stern show. With RXP at a 2.2 I imagine that's somewhat similar. What's even more hilarious is that basically someone programming an ipod on shuffle did better/the same than a full-fledged branded, staffed-up station.
Finally, I'm not sure if this board is full of people who are aging boomers but some of these last song selections are absurd. We ALREADY have a classic rock outlet (one that's safe as can be) so let's keep the dad-rock to a separate station. My guesses are:
Pearl Jam - Alive Beastie Boys - No Sleep Til Brooklyn Green Day - Good Riddance Semisonic - Closing Time

I'll add The Killers "All These Things That I've Done" to that list. The sad thing is, 101.9 will probably be playing some random Black Keys song, and CBS will pull the plug in the middle of the song.

I was thinking that as a possibility to. A random shuffle that abruptly gets cut off at midnight.
