The problem is not CBS.  Atlanta already has one duopoly.  That raises the bar for getting another duopoly approved... and since CBS has radio stations, I think they would have a hard time getting a second duopoly approved in this market.

We can only hope that CBS would just buy WGCL and make it into an O&O. 

As Meredith hubs 10 of its stations out of Atlanta, there's about a 0% chance of that happening.

WGNT was the hub for the Southeastern stations of CBS until it was sold about 2 years ago, so if the price is right then Meredith would sell WGCL-TV to CBS.  At the moment, CBS is the only major network that has made large purchases.

The number 44 DMA versus the number 9 DMA.  I'm pretty sure Meredith's price would be waaaay beyond what CBS would be willing to pay.  Given that Meredith's print business is...not well... it needs everything it can get from its broadcasting business.

You haven't heard what CBS Corp. new strategy is nowadays.  They are realigning their company (under word from Summer Redstone himself) that their market clusters must revolve around multimedia synergy (TV-Radio-online).   WUPA doesn't even have its own news department, but WGCL does. 

Also if Meredith is hurting for cash so, they might just take whatever large pay off CBS could offer them for the CBS affiliate of the nation's 9th largest market.  In other words, they may in fact look into buying WGCL-TV, so never say never with CBS.

Is 46 working on new sets?  The morning set no longer features the "metal air vent on the side of a warehouse" centerpiece.    They now sport a somewhat generic looking thing with the obligatory flat panel.

It looks way better and permanent.  They only use that set for "Better Mornings."  In other CBS Atlanta News, they keep reporting Brandon Rudat will be anchoring the 11pm newscast with Stehpanie Fisher and Markina Brown on Superbowl Sunday.  Will he be the new male anchor for evening and nightly newscast?   Paul Ossman would be great for Better Mornings weekdays

Rudat is among the best talent they have over there.  He does a very credible morning show, banter when needed, serious news and speaking his mind now and then too.  It's different from typical plastic anchors.  They are wise to use him more.

What was really amazing was that he did the delayed late news last night and was still there this morning, not even taking the day off.  He didn't even look tired.  I don't know of any other anchors on any Atlanta channels who would have been capable of pulling that off.

I see that Paul Ossmann after a year at channel 46 is getting a lot more exposure on the station. I still wonder why he doesnt work in the time to become a certified meterologist but he has being a well rounded tv personality figured out. I assume its just vacation relief but paul may stick with better mornings in my opinion.

I see Brandon goes from no tie to always a tie as better mornings evolves into a standard morning newscast.

IIRC Paul Ossmann was doing real estate after his channel 11 gig.  Even at the depressed prices netting out 2.5% to 6% of  $200,K + a transaction is not bad if you can list or sell the property.

I went to school for Broadcast Meteorology and one of CBS 46's biggest problem is their weather.  The afternoon/evening weather lady is awful.  WGCL will need to start hiring knowledgeable meteorologist and stop hiring people for sex appeal.

The weather graphics are awful and their radar imagery is awful.  Their futurecast models have very low resolution which makes it look much more blurry than the other stations.   

While he still needs to get better acquainted with north Ga, Mike Francis over at 11 alive proves to be the most accurate of all mets around.  He also creates his own forecast vs taking from the NWS.  Technology over at WSB is good but they read the forecast from the NWS.  Ken Cook is good at what he does but he's way to conservative for my taste.  For example, if models are indicating snow, he will not even hint at it until 24 hours prior.  Severe weather?  Same deal; He will not even mention the threat for severe weather until 24 hours prior while everyone else is screaming the threat is there.

There is a fine line with under-estimating a weather forecast and dramatizing minor weather activity.  OMG, winds blew down a tree on a car!

Back to WGCL though-  They need a good meteorologist who will include skycams in the burbs, better graphics, and a little more time.  I miss Gene Norman who has be Atlanta's most accurate in the last 10 years.  Chris Smith (weekend guy) was good as well.
