WLW on HD-2
« on: February 09, 2013, 05:44:26 PM »

WLW made a good move by turning off their AM HD and put their signal on 107.1 WKFS-HD2. This is an improvement in my listening experience because I live about 50 miles from their tower and their AM signal is subject to some noise while listening indoors due to computers, lights, etc. OTOH, the WKFS FM tower is about 25 miles from my location and they are running at -14 db. It is nice to hear WLW in full range audio on a good stereo with full quieting. They are also simulcasting on 94.5 LPFM, but that signal is useless unless within 5 miles of their tower because of co-channel interference from a 94.5 in Lexington KY and Dayton OH. I think WLW AM went back to 10 hkz audio because they sound decent and splash 690 and 710. Good move WLW.

That's fantastic news!

I take it there's no upgrade path for 94.5 since it's so closely spaced to other co-channels nearby?

WLW comes in great now here in Chicago and can even be heard in the daytime quite well if you are in a quiet location and have a good receiver!

I am too close to KSEV to test whether they are stronger at night.  I suspect maybe KSEV was stuck on daytime power last night.  I'll try again some other night -- I do know that WLW used to be one of the first nighttime catches here in Houston, before the channel glut on AM put stations on all the formerly clears.
