Jacksonville radio predictions
« on: March 03, 2013, 10:04:54 PM »

Does anyone predict any major flips in the near future?
Will CC stay the course with 97.9?
Will Cox stay the course with 104.5?
What impact has 106.1 had on 93.3?

106.1 has already started to impact 93.3..their numbers are down..but if they continue to lay the hammer and make a little more money....there could be a possible signal upgrade to 104.5...thats my prediction!

Not that 6+ means anything, but anyone have any idea of the 106.1 numbers will be released when the next monthly comes out?

The Pensacola predictions thread has more action than Jacksonville.  Is this because no one expects anything to happen here?  Well anyways, someone told me that there may be a format flip at 97.9 soon.  (I have no idea how reliable that rumor is though, this person is not in radio or media at all).

BTW, did WFYV lose it's Heritage status when it changed it's name to 104.5?

I'd like to see WAPE return to AM, not sure if they can up to a full non dire. 50KW station but, it would be a great feeling to hear it on HF vs online, playing a classic hits format keeping it alive. Not sure how well the current FM is doing but, 690 is a clear channel frequency and they could be 50KW 24 hrs. Their nighttime pattern puts out one hell of a signal to the eastern coast of the US.

DXers have heard it as far as Canada and Colorado!

690 at night is 25kW with a very tight, 6-tower, array near Baldwin, as I recall.  The signal actually missed the studio in Orange Park and they had to have a special backhaul listen line setup to monitor the transmitter after dark.

The frequency is definately not a clear channel. There's a long list of nighttime (and daytime) authorizations on the channel.  The nearest 50kW daytime signal is WJOX in Birmingham,AL.   There are 5kW nighttime authorizations in the southeast including New Orleans & El Paso (10kW) and lots of low power stuff.

I like that 690 idea as well. I live in altamonte and I can hear 690 well enough down here. I'm all for someone doing oldies on am. Smiley  But we know good and well that will never happen. I don't know if you all can hear 790 WLBE up there in that area but if you like the oldies on am then that is a good one.  But getting back on topic I wonder what format would 97.9 do? What about  a gen x format like CC does on other stations? I for one like that format. I just don't have very many ideas for that station. I used to go to Florida school for the def and blind in ST. Augustine and hated the radio up there. I always used to dx Orock 105.9.

I think the best solution for WNWW (97.9 FM) is to flip the station's current CHR format to Hot AC, which is basically CHR with some older Top 40 music from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. If 97.9 goes in this direction, they can pick up some of the older listeners from WAPE who miss that type of music from their youth and those who are not so fond of some of today's Top 40 music. Also, it will make 97.9 FM an unique station in this market and it will set them apart from WAPE in the Top 40 music "radio war".
