WVAE/Biddeford, ME now simulcasting WGAN
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:10:10 AM »

AM 1400 has broken away from the 1490 simulcast; the change is not yet reflected on the 1400/1490 website.

Thanks for the heads-up.

They did post this on their site: http://am1400and1490.com/2013/02/25/whats-happened-to-am-1400/

Interesting that they didn't bother changing their logo. Nothing but complaints in the comments. Was WGAN's coverage in Biddeford-Saco really so bad that it was worth sacrificing 1490's programming in York County? The website still mentions that Boston Bruins play-by-play is on AM 1400 and 1490. If that is the case, I wonder if any other sports programming will be carried over such as the Yankees.

Interesting move.  I live way up the coast (or is it "down"?), where WGAN's signal reaches all the way to Bucksport and Blue Hill.  But I've noticed that when I travel south to Massachusetts, it pretty much loses its oomph by the time I get to Kittery.  I've never seen the station's signal pattern map, but I presume the signal is oriented N/NE to protect WHYN.  To that extent, I guess the format change at WVAE makes sense, at least during the daylight hours.  Does it broadcast with 250 watts at night?
