Cox Radio bids farewell to online only ads in 3 markets.

Cox becomes the biggest broadcast group to do away with replacing over-the-air commercial breaks with PSA's and outdated ads or other stuff. Now in Houston, Atlanta, and Tampa, what you hear on the radio is what you hear online 24/7

While I think this is awesome, are we sure this isn't a technical issue.

Doesn't SAG-AFTRA prohibit this? Are the folks at Cox paying royalties to AFTRA to broadcast these ads online?

I missed that you mentioned three markets so I imagine this is not a technical issue. Still curious about AFTRA.

With internet radio not just being on home computers, but on just about every type of device you can think of, I think AFTRA is finally realizing this is radio's ultimate future and are now working things out with stations rather than taking their ball and staying hime as it were.

If you really think about it, talent was hoping for a big payoff. Once broadcasters figured out how to cover those commercials, the money wasn't there.

That is a welcome change... FINALLY! :)
