Unfortunately, that idea would be totally illegal and against FCC rules. An AM station may utilize an FM translator only within the daytime pattern of the AM station's primary service contour. The 103.3 Entercom translator facility downtown exceeds the area KRIZ or KZIZ's primary 1mv/meter contour. Mr. Chris Bennett, owner of the Z twins would be wise to make a deal with the KGHO 92.9 MHz translator if that was a strategy worth pursuing.

In any event, I agree that the 103.3 translator should be rebroadcasting an HD channel of Entercom's choosing. That is perfectly legal.

The two are interchangeable in broadcasting (60 dbu= 1 mv/meter) however I see AM groundwaves refer to millivolts per meter mostly and FM using the dbu. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_range

On another note, the FCC website is back up and it looks like there is a new Oak Harbor allocation preventing 103.1 to be a good channel to operate an LPFM on up North. I will investigate further.

I don't imagine an LPFM would cause much interference on 103.5, CHQM is far too strong. None the less, I'd rather not be driving, trying to listen to QM-FM and get a bunch of annoying static from the LP.

I usually can skip right over the 92.9 repeater of KGHO and get the much stronger KISM, but not without the signal quality being drastically lowered.

Yes, that allocatiion was for 103.3 So maybe Monroe or Startup could have an LPFM. I'll have to check the spacing tables in 47 CFR 73.807.

And this will NOT work in a place like Los Angeles with IBOC on literally every open frequency and rimshots on the others. 95.1 an exception (due to KFRG and KBBY).

Plus, I've heard of people that listen to the Q in Seattle. Same with KMPS - I heard a caller from Victoria, BC one time (I don't know if he was listening online or over-the-air, but KMPS' signal should be just fine in Victoria)

Most Seattle FM stations come in fairly well on the Island from Victoria to Duncan. My cousin listens to 100.7 "The Wolf" from Shawnigan Lake. Seattle actually comes in better than Vancouver in allot of that area.
