Bob Barker to celebrate 90th birthday on Price is Right

I've heard Bob will have a hand in TPIR for the entire week.
I'm pretty sure Drew is going pass the mic and have Bob host an entire episode.

They may have to bring out Bob's wired mic! :D

Good for him! And he's doing great for 89 1/2. Until he passes, Bob will be a big pet advocate - I agree.

P.S. - When did he start saying "have your pets spayed or neutered" at the end of TPIR? I wanna say maybe mid 1990s but it may be earlier.

Bob wasn't always an animal-rights advocate; it was his wife, Dorothy Jo,
who was into that cause. He took it up after she died in 1981 (my mom
always wondered why he didn't link up with Betty White, also an animal-
rights advocate, after Allen Ludden died that same year). As I'm sure most
of you know, he gave up hosting the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants
because a fur coat was awarded to the winners, just as he banned furs as
a prize on "TPIR" (or lobbied to do away with them as prizes, anyway).

Speaking of "TPIR," I'm hearing that Drew wants to get back into stand-up
comedy. Anybody heard anything about his possibly stepping down as host?

During his time with "Price Is Right", Drew Carey has come a long way and something tells me Bob Barker has been mentoring him, helping Carey develop into a superior host.

If he wants to get back to stand-up and leave, Drew should be replaced by John O'Hurley or Todd Newton. Both good hosts for the job. Many people I know wanted O'Hurley to take over from Barker starting in season 36 - that didn't work out.w

There's no point to quit hosting TPIR just to go on the stand up circuit again. It's not like TPIR tapes in real time. The taping schedule does 2 shows a day, 4 to 5 days a week. One month of tapings result in 2 months of product "in the can" available to air. TPIR goes dark in the Summer so the hosting schedule really only needs 3 months of commitment and that doesn't have to be done concurrently.

Drew Carry's upstairs studio neighbor, Craig Ferguson, has no trouble working the stand-up circuit and hosting The Late Late Show. Also, Craig does more shows per calendar year than Drew does with TPIR. Drew would be a fool to give up a cushy gig like TPIR, unless he's afraid his stand-up material will cause controversy that could affect the TPIR brand.

Drew's comedy is fairly tame and not as blue as say Bob Saget's and even still Bob was able to churn out the America's Funniest Home Video show without the fundies crying foul. Red Foxx had no trouble either with Sanford & Son and Foxx's Vegas act was really filthy!

But he's still not all the way there. He misses many spots where a funny line could go (Bob usually got those). Drew is not good at off the cuff stuff. He needs to think about a joke, write it down and then make it funny. He's too busy concentrating on the game to try to be funny IMO.

I don't think Drew is going anywhere but if he does leave TPIR, I agree Todd Newton is perfect. (he's already doing the live TPIR's)
I also recommend Alan Thicke to do the live ones if Todd can't do both. (Alan also has experience with the Live TPIR's)
