Rick Gillette Out as PD of 92~3 Now

WNOW holds at a 1.9 share for the 2nd straight month in the November ratings just released.

Midday jock Micki Gamez also departed in late October.

Can this station be pushed forward or are they just stuck inside a hole they can't get out of? Of the CBS Top 40 outlets introduced within the past 5 years, the NYC outlet has to be the most disappointing. While L.A.'s KAMP is the most successful, the others in Detroit, Boston + San Diego are at least fair to middling.

Could it be finally people are fed up with auto tune, mediocre lyrics, wussie girliemen, the air head chicky poo sound, lip synching, and musicians who have no clue what a danceable guitar solo is..

It seems Z-100 is a more formidable opponent than CBS may have bargained for. With the lack of ratings growth after this amount of time and the exit of a respectable PD there has to be some question of whether they stick with CHR at this point.

May just be a rumor but I've been hearing from a couple of different industry folks that Joel Salkowitz former PD of Hot 103/97 and Pulse 87 may be on CBS' list of PD's to be called. Anyone hear about this?

I didn't hear about this, but at this point it makes sense. Make it dance/EDM. It's virtually there so as long as you get rid of the pop elements that aren't EDM based.

92.3 Now has tried for 4 years to be that CHR station. And it's been a mess. Musically I don't think the station has been the problem, they are what they are...CHR. I've said it before when the original personalities left, it's about the on-air image. Before, the stations on-air personalities came off very "ballsy" and cool. Now, it sounds "whiney".

The one element of Now that has been good are the mix shows. Make it dance/EDM and guys like Toro, David S, Jay Dabhi, Beatbreaker can REALLY go off!!

Either that or give 1010WINS their "22 minutes" on FM.

Doubtful. The cost of a format change and lost revenue while they build up a new audience is too great. Plus they cume well...not sure about billing but I suspect it's not bad. That said..I agree they're a bit of a train wreck. Their presentation is mediocre at best with most on air talent sounding like they're in a small market and about 12 years old. The moniker "NOW" also is about as unimaginative as one could get.

I wonder if CBS regrets firing all their DJs on Now or not going country. If CBS were to bring back Alternative Rock in the form of New Rock 101.9 on 102.7 they would be wise. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening. 102.7 is basically playing a lot of Alternative Rock songs with Hot A/C mixed in. It's almost like Cities 97 in MN. For 92.3 they should go country or something.

Rock on 102.7 would be wise? So, they should blow up a good performing station to put on a niche format that has a long history of underperformance in NYC? Brilliant!

Now, it sounds "whiney".

Tony isn't that the problem...this is the wussie generation and ballsy music is not being made anywhere except in Louisiana

OH GOD...not this again.....

Thank God you have streams going on. You also have Pandora and Spotify. Type an artist name and zydeco galore for ya. And no, flipping 92.3 Now to Zydeco would be further disaster.

I don't think it matters what they do, Z-100 is both an established brand (Top-40/CHR longer than WABC was) and they do what they do VERY well.

They will always be the RC Cola to Z-100's Coke. They're not going to beat them at their own game in this case.

But Tony its not the same as being on the air Lets face it i'm not a wussie, i love kick azz music even Nash doesn't seem to play that much of it i think that's a big mistake.

There is southern soul blues people spending years learning how to play real instruments that's why EDM wont work on radio unless you specifically target it to the cubicle crowd boring repetitious music for boring people.

EDM artists have to keep inventing new "songs" its truly the disposable McMusic crowd, 6 week wonders then delete it because no one will want to hear i next year or at their high school reunion.

Does Nash play colt ford?

So that's why nash is just to wussified for me.

-------NASH plays songs that made the top 20 on the billboard country chart & dont play many that didnt. They play the hits so tell colt ford to get a hit & theyll play it.

And your comments from this and your past post CLEARLY SHOWS YOUR MUSICAL IGNORANCE. You wanna attack a song, fine. You wanna attack an artist, fine. YOU DO NOT ATTACK PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE MUSIC and you are showing your colors to everyone here!!!

Music is in the "ear" of the listener. I love dance/EDM. Some don't. I'm not into country. Some are. But I'm not going to berate or stereotype people who love a specific genre of music just because I do not agree with it. That would be ignorant. And if anything, I support music PERIOD. I may favor dance but for anyone who is a fan of a sound, even if I don't agree with it, they have every right to listen, follow and love a sound.

If all you can do is call names on people that follow a sound, then it just proves to everyone in here the type of person that you are. Honestly, I could care less what Nash plays. But I also know people love country and I support them for that.

Maybe this is the time you should keep QUIET right now. Go listen to your Zydeco. Enjoy it. But cut the crap about MY music. Because I'm NOT a wussie and have and will always STAND UP TO YOU and others who don't like dance out of ignorance.

Rock is not a niche format. Honestly, look at the NYC dial half the stations play the same music there is NO VARIETY! KTU plays the same stuff as Z & Now & Lite. Fresh plays the same songs as PLJ & Lite as does KTU & Z & Now. Hot & Power play some of the same songs as BLS, KTU, Z, Now. Q 104.3 plays some of the same music as CBS FM & Lite. X 96.3 & 97.9 play some of the same music as each other and even some of the same songs as Z, Power, Hot, KTU, BLS, & Now. Nash only really plays some of the same songs as Fresh or PLJ & Lite. There really is no Current Based Rock station in NYC. It is needed and you and I both know that! Look at all the stations together they overlap in terms of music now more than before!

But thats what a hit station does.

Thats what Z100 & they were the #1 billing station in NY last year so obviously it works.

Youre just an old white guy....lol.

Don't confuse what you want with what's commercially viable.
