A day in the life of a lamptimer

Howdy fans of the Tower of POW-POW-POWER...I ambled over to the "Arizona Gold" web-site history page [http://kazg1440.com/history] and found much to my surprise the following:

"The station is licensed to Scottsdale, Arizona and covers the Phoenix metropolitan area with 5,000 watts of power during daylight and 500 watts night time."

500 WATTS at night!!!
Is this new?
Have the Gold-miners added another squirrel to the squirrel cage generator sending it into warp-drive?
Has catfish (lower case C) decided to kick the Mighty Nautel up at night?
Is this just a bit of wishful thinking by the web composer?

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

Yes, indeedy...poetic license has resulted in mass confusion at Lumberyard 14~Forty. While the web site history shows Gumpdusky ownership, the copyright at the bottom of the page belongs to the new owner, Mother Hubbard. Both Radio Sri and the Saturday morning RV show are no longer Boss bound on the lineup. And the 500 watt nighttime pow-pow-power, refers only to their Pre Sunrise authorization. Night power remains at 52 watts. catfish (lower case c) has programmed all monthly power configurations into the Nautel, thus allowing the lamptimer to take a much needed dive into the nearby Crosscut Canal. A reward is currently not being offered.

Well that's that then...No chance for me to spin the dial on the old National HRO-50 and feel and hear the POW-POW-POWER of the "Legendary Lumber-Yard 1440"...All of us Texas fans (both of us) are reacting with grave disappointment.
I'm not worried that the legendary Lamp-Timer might take the plunge (other than EPA concerns) since we all know, pooo floats!

Guess we owe you that thingymabob. Here's the Nautel, buried on pg 12 of xmttr pictures http://kazg1440.com/galleries/kazg-transmitter-site/16666 It's a beauty, even with the price tag label still on it! (looks like catfish went overboard on the expandable foam application)

I'll have Nurse Jeff check the Tuff Shed behind the Media Hut and see if he can locate the Bernie Wise P.O.S among all the undocumented students living in it. If not, then would you consider in trade a Gates Level Devil once wired to the Gremlin's radio to compensate for road noise? (voltage inverter not included)

Now that's a deal, Dr. That's one sweet sounding vintage processor, according to the weirdos and tube sound geeks over at GearSlutz.com (cover your eyes, youngin's), who know a thing or two about ear-bleeding audio. I'll keep an eye peeled for the Fez 'n Gremlin (are you near KRIZ, er, KOY, er whatever 1230 is presently pumping out?)

Even during the day, the Crackhouse on Buckeye is a dangerous drive-by. Gotta admit, that monstrous tower is pretty impressive for a garbage frequency.

Speaking of garbage, anyone have a better suggestion than "Paddock Place" for the townhouses going in on what remains of the Round Up Drive In? How 'bout "Round Up Ranches" or "K-POKe Kondos"?

Well, at least back in the 1980s, "La Mirage" was a popular name for hot properties. I do hope the townhouses in question are more flame retardant than this would indicate: http://bit.ly/1ciscEF

How are we EVER going to get back on topic here?

No hay problema, mi amigo. We'll order a Lumberyard 14~Forty Sampler from Amazon for you and have a drone deliver it in time for Christmas! (kindly be out of your hut the day of delivery for your own personal safety) Nothing says Happy Holidays better than a low flying aircraft!

A Phoenix station was noted in "Ya-Ki-Ma" WA last night. Unfortunately, it was everyone's "not-so" favorite, KF-Why-Eye. They shockingly made it through KUZZ for an ID at 1000 watts and 1016 miles from Phoenix, AZ! Conditions were very good to the south and southeast with little from the east noted. KF-Why-Eye is actually new to my logbook, and ditto on KUZZ in Bakersfield. Now if I can get "Kay-FUNN" or the Lamptimer on sunrise skip, that would be great. Isn't KAZG 5000 flamin' watts?
I've heard oldies on 1440 during sunset, but there was also a match that same day on UNID Oldies on 1470 (same song), so I probably had Wray, CO on 1440 and KKTY Douglas WY on 1470. No IDs unfortunately.

Hey guys! Looks like the famous Lamptimer thread could use some life! I did an AM Phoenix Band Scan check early Sunday morning (06/15/2024) at 1:45 A.M. http://youtu.be/HyRfTzjnp9U It features a good KAZG air check with a top of the hour legal ID from 20 minutes on. Long live the Lamptimer!

Last time I listened to it at night I was able to pick it up out by Pointe Hilton.

Saturday evening, I drove out to a car show at the corner of Bell Road and 67th Avenue and when I got out there, I happened to have the car radio set to KAZG. Left the show shortly before 9PM, started the car and there was KAZG! The ol' lamptimer's 50 watts of pow-pow-power was able to reach out there, at least temporarily before some sports talk show on the same frequency walked on it.

Still going on the Lamptimer? Haven't heard anything since July.
And no, I still haven't gotten the Lumberyard via skywave yet here in central Washington, but to my surprise I heard a new one: Kay-FUNN 1510 this morning! The weather guy happened to mention "USI Mesa Insulations" around 6AM. That's 22KW of pow-pow-power under so called strong KGA Spokane. Now I need the other 5KW of KAZG...

2014 was a good year for Lumberyard 14~Forty. The Goldminers hit a 0.4 share and just finished the Holiday ratings with a 0.3. To put that into perspective, KTAR Sports Parkinglot 6~Twenty, finished with a 0.5. YIKES!

A tip of the fez to catfish (lower case "c") and the rest of the Mother Hubbards. Must be the new Nautel; no tower lights or paint, and the fact Nurse Jeff and I had nothing to do with it!

I listened to KAZG for the first time just now...

...and they were playing "Down in the Boondocks". Never heard it before and it already sounds worn out! :)

And that's exactly why Lumberyard 14~Forty is doing so well - all the oldies are wornout. But at least 0.4% of the available listening audience loves the sound that's all over town. Too strong to go wrong!

It is time to break down and spend $1.95 for a translator for the lamptimer and downgrade to 250 W-D, and add NBC news at the top of the hour with Brian Williams.

Well, Lumberyard 14~Forty was on KDKB HD~Two, but got yanked. Who knows...they may show up on KSLX HD~Two or Three one of these days

As far as NBC News with Brian Williams, the Nurse and I think you're on to something. KAZG could get Kim Dillon to do weather, and Bruce Jenner can design a "softer" look for the Goldminers with pastel overalls.

YIKES!
