Arby’s To Air 13-Hour Commercial On Duluth, Minn., TV Station

Have eaten the sandwich, it is good. I order it nekkid though, as any BBQ that comes within a mile of any mayonaise related product I consider sacrilege. But it's a free country. Crunchy onion rings...I could see that, though not for me.

It is from real roast beef brisket, not the roast beef "loaf" for which Arby's is famous (infamous?) Better BBQ can be had for sure, but it holds up well against other fast food competition.

I haven't heard a peep about the 13 hour ad outside of this forum. If it was designed to catch some free buzz in the regular media, it failed.

"Slicing up freshness" has been a lame campaign for Arby's. I don't care that some pre-packaged roast beef loaf prepared in some far off factory was sliced fresh in the store. I'm assuming they're targeting Subway. Arby's and Subway are both good in my opinion.

The "Good Mood Food" dude might have been irritating, but that campaign punched through the clutter a lot better. It helped that they found the heir apparent to Johnny Olson. Arby's dropped him just when I thought he was coming into his own.

Pretty sure it's real roast beef.

The Smokehouse Brisket Sandwich is real roast beef. However, their standard "classic" roast beef sandwich is a reconstituted loaf of bits of beef bound together with various meat glue products into a loaf shape. It is "real beef", in that at one time most of the loaf used to be part of a steer. However, it is not real roast beef. It is a product closer to beef bologna or beef meat loaf.

The story of Arby's switching from real roast beef to the imitation loaf product is very similar to how the radio and television industry makes programming decisions. When they surveyed their customers, it was almost unanimous that they preferred the real roast beef to the loaf product. However, with real roast beef, sometimes a bit of gristle or fat might get included and then customers would complain. Arby's found that though their customers preferred real roast beef, they would settle for the inferior loaf product and there would be fewer complaints.

I wasn't aware it was reconsistuted. I really like their sandwiches. In any case, I think they've gotten enough mileage from this stunt to make it well worth it. They even were giving away prizes yesterday as they streamed the 'commercial' online.
