Ratings & Revenue then,....and Now for the True Thinkers:

David, keep in mind that "Scooter" was fired/not renewed from his radio gig almost 30 years ago and judging from his diatribes on how late 1970's/mid 1980's rock acts are somehow relevant in 2014 has probably ceased to have a grip on reality long before then.

That explains why he references only stuff from that era... continuous feed computer paper, the widespread use of consultants, and songs long forgotten by most. And it would also explain the nostalgia for vinyl (didn't he have a now-closed record store?) and other trappings of the late 70's and early 80's.

Mr. Ed, not only is Dudefan's post shallow in explanation, but totally incorrect. What he is referring to is an article printed in a small North Carolina publication, per the Horse Manure drivel of one Ken Carson. He blabbed whatever he wanted, thinking that I would not see it.....claiming that he fired Mike & Scooter. Well,...for starters Ken wasn't even on duty, until after Mike was in Asbury Park. So, he never met Mike Benson, much less fired him....and since I worked for the station another 12-months Promoting our new product....a good one too....John Boy & Billy! I got married, and resigned my job,...and left on February 21, 1994. So, Ken didn't fire me either. He did not have the power to fire Me or Mike, for that matter. Placing such crap in that publication, just made him look big & powerful, but nothing could be further from the truth. Carson left to take another job. His normal employment cycle, when management arrives at a clear understanding that he had snowed them into hiring him, and behold....his incompetence was exposed once again. Readers, that is your truth!

Now DudeFan,....since you are back aboard, spouting the untrue, and far fetched,....Let's see if you can answer my apparently "Unanswerable" question, regarding the three 80's songs. So, wanna Play? Go back and read....then pick one, if you are so damn smart!

1980's Songs.

Unless it's a gold-based format targeting those 40+, the answer is none. The songs are no longer relevant. Period. Kinda like VHS, dot matrix printers, and cartridge machines, and Scooter Lesley.

If I had to run a music test on the three, I would expect The Cars to be less burnt. But unless I were programming a gold based station where those songs were in a relevant era and genre, who hell cares?

So,....oh fan of dude-ness,....out of the three 80's songs, you have made your intelligent choice....of The Cars-'Let's Go"? That being #1 of that group, and the other two: "On Way Or Another",...and "My Sharona"...falling second, and third or....are they the other way around, with say "My Shorona" at #2???

It's not a head scratcher,....but at least you are, unlike the others, being brave enough to attempt. There is a proper order, and only three.

Well,...I seemed to have waited long enough for Dudefan to answer the question, and apparently, no play...by he who claims to know. I found this wod of yellow modeling clay, and I fashioned a little Dudefan voo-dude doll. Here,...I'll hold it a little closer to the screen so you can see. I know it looks a little like Jerry Lewis, but I had to improvise. Beside, I need to find a use for them old hat pins left behind, when Grandma died. Maybe that'll get a rise? So, out of all the great alleged thinkers that take issue with me, none are brave enough to answer my simple music question, based on 80's music. Tomorrow night, I will be back to wrap it up, give you the correct answer, and close this rather lengthy Topic down.

Well,...I can only say that I find it quite amusing. We had all these alleged Know-it-alls about Programming, Music, and just Radio, in general: TheBigA, JeffM, Freqdev, Mr. Ed, Dudefan.....they all would not even attempt to answer my simple question. The correct order was "My Sharona", "Let's Go", and then "One Way Or Another". None of them brave enough to even try. Regarding 80"s music, none of them smart enough to know that they all three were from 1979. All of them making light of The Knack, when their hit stayed at #1 for 6-weeks; quite impressive. I gave anyone a chance to try, and didn't think, for one minute, that it would stump the panel of posters herein. So, I proved my point, regarding their competence.....just pitiful! Readers, I'm done here. Topic closed.

You are totally forgetting the key point of music selection: it does not matter how big a hit a song was when new. All that matters is how much listeners want to hear it on the radio today.

Not only that but #10 for the entire decade according to Casey Kasem.

But chart positions way back when have no relevance to whether a song is playable today.
