Michael Berry, Dan Cofall, Matt Patrick, Tom Sullivan - all considered conservative talkers according to my internet research.

Clyde Lewis and Coast to Coast - both conspiracy-friendly programs not fond Barack Obama, if not outright hostile. These shows cater to truthers of various sorts and are generally suspicious of all government.

Russ Martin may not be overtly political but he isn't likely to alienate a pointedly conservative demographic. I'd classify his show as libertarian comedy.

Rodney Anderson, One Life Radio and Opening Bell - I guess those are apolitical shows not likely to offend conservatives; although I can't imagine tuning in five days a week to hear about mortgage loans and dietary supplements.

So four of the name personalities are decidedly conservative. Two shows designed to stoke societal paranoia and distrust, much like you'd hear on Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh but with aliens thrown in the mix. Three shows of limited interest but not particularly political to my knowledge. And one tired local comedian. Overall I'd say yeah, this is another conservative talker in DFW.

Moving "Opening Bell" kinda sucks because the two financial guys were my bail out when the Ticket gets stupid and I've heard the news cycle on KRLD while driving to work. I'm indifferent with the rest of the content. But now, I've discovered podcasts.

And of course if you don't like the content, change the freakin' channel!

Because it costs you literally nothing to run these shows on NexGen and you can pepper the lineup with infomercials?

That is a good point. Personally I would have gone with some other low cost programming, like old-time radio dramas myself. Something to differentiate my station in the DFW area. Why would I travel all the way to 1190 when I can find the same content lower on the dial?

That might be low cost, but would generate zero revenue. Honestly CC would have been better off just running Classic Country 24/7.

That was already tried on 1190 and failed. The day signal is ok but the lack of N Dallas/Plano and further north coverage at night is the killer..even putting Coast to Coast on it will fail

And remember that the market is not just one county any more. Ft Worth was added to the market for ratings back in the early 70's as FM developed, and it's now 13 counties in total, which means that there are only two or three AMs that truly cover all the market day and night.

The 12 tower array was added for Fort Worth coverage in 1970...but FTW too built to the north...and the array misses that area as well...(it hits most of the rest of FTW ok but not NE/N and NW along IH Loop 820 and north of it)

We eagerly anticipated the change from 1000 to 5000 W nightime power in Midland, but when it was turned on, the nighttime KLIF signal was about the same as it was before. Listenable but with a lot of interference in the background. The daytime signal was pretty good, but suffered a little crosstalk from a very badly engineered 1150.

The old 3 tower 1kw night site for 1190 KLIF was on the SE side of Dallas...but could not throw any decent signal over Ft Worth...the 5kw 12 tower Rockwall site was engineered to reach Ft Worth but still had to protect KEX, WOWO and the 1190 south of the border; thus the narrow beamwidth..had they stayed at the old night site, they would be covering Plano and N Dallas...At one time, running the day site at 1kw night was considered and could have worked EXCEPT for a Canadian allocation..that never got built (probably could apply for it now at 5kw with WOWO downgraded and KEX coowned by iHM; they could then sell off the night site for some major cash, but that wouldnt make a dent in their $16billion debt!)...

I think Midland is outside the protected contour of the night site anyway..

I don't live there any more - it was Spanish language, horribly overmodulated when I lived there. I reproduced the IF board from a Heathkit SW radio, it had four ceramic filters, that got rid of most of the splatter. Of course if I still lived in Midland, I would have no further interest in the programming on 1190. It made sense in the 60's and early 70's because the local top 40 censored the music, and the 950 from Lubbock wasn't much better.
