And unfortunately for you, it is NOT a stereotype. There are many,many people who DON'T care if the Anthem is trampled by a spot, who DON'T care if someone disrespects the flag, but who WILL VERY MUCH CARE if the freedoms that these items represent are taken away. I just hope to God it never happens in OUR lifetime.

It's a stereotype when it comes to me and just about anyone you'll encounter in life. When you learn to discern actual patriotism from flag-waving and slapping a "Support Our Troops" bumper sticker on the tailgate of your F-150, you'll know what you're talking about. Actually, I prefer the Canadian National Anthem, Au Canada, which you hear anytime the Bruins play a Canadian team . In reality since most Bruins are Canadian Americans they could play it at the Garden and few would mind.... ;-)
Also actually, it's O Canada, both in English and French (you can look it up...) I better keep this short or I might burn my potatoes ugh rotten...
Personally, I think we should play the Kazakhstan national anthem before every sporting event.

Yes, I know. That was the point in my calling him a foreigner. It was sarcasm. Something neoconservatives seem to have an increasingly difficult time wrapping their brains around... not that they were starting off with much to work with anyway...
IIRC, back in the day when I was involved in such things, the only requirement was that you couldn't join the national anthem in progress. Either all of it, or nothing. If you pulled the trigger too late after a break, and the anthem had started, it was back to filling time for 90 seconds or so.
I don't recall if that was just a station protocol or SOP for any sporting event carried by any station in any medium.

I'm a veteran and agree with what was said. I have often wondered why, as a nation, we have this giant fixation with outward displays of patriotism. This isn't Hitler's Germany, after all.
