WROR is powering up !
Still #1 and they gained some.

The Blahs of March killed sports radio.
WBZ AM watched their listeners melt away just like the snow.

I also notice down near the lower end of the pack WXRV has been making a steady rise.

B's loss ROR's gain

Might one of the reasons for ROR's sustantial gain in share be the disappearance of Providence's Classic Hits station, B 101, due to the signal downgrade to accomodate the Bull?

I know 6+ is just considered "beauty contest" and the proof is in the demographic fight.

But WXRV has more listeners than WRKO?

Sad how the mighty have fallen.

Is there any market where the big AM talker is still doing well?

Hartford, Connecticut. WTIC 1080 is usually in the Top 3. This is despite them have a revolving door of fill-in hosts in PM drive since John "The Felon" Rowland stepped down in April 2014. That being said in addition to RUSH (at Noon), Hannity (at 10PM), Clark Howard (at 7PM), and local hosts in the Morning and Mid-days (in addition to PM Drive) they also carry The Redsox, The Patriots, The NY Giants, and UCONN Sports.

I tend to tune out when they talk about school basketball.

The uninspired (and ultimately unplayoff-worthy) play of the Bruins and the Boston market's lack of interest in big-time college sports -- except as vehicles for gambling -- meant a down month for sports radio. The Red Sox' hot start should help WEEI-FM this month. It remains to be seen if a Celtics playoff run (consensus, 5 games maximum) will goose up the Sports Hub's numbers as well.

WXRV-- LOVE IT love it love it! Good to see how they are rising

In Providence ( Market Rank #44) WPRO AM 630 is # 5, 6+ with a 5.8 in the Feb 2015 PPM. I like John Batchelor so I listen online a lot. The morning news block sounds good and they have a live local talk line up all day. I think they sound very solid.

Indeed they do. WPRO-AM 630 was almost always well run all the way back to the days when it was owned by one of the finest broadcast operations around anywhere, Capital Cities Broadcasting. Between Cap Cities and Group W, it was hard to find stations that were not only run well but that also made money. Great on-air personalities, top-notch news coverage. And 'PRO 630 is carrying on that tradition even today. They may not be at the top of the (6+) ratings anymore, but they still are the leading AM station in the Providence market. My only wish is they'd stick to news/talk and not carry sports; they have other sister stations in RI that could carry games.

WPRO is a solid operation... that said, the question being "Where is an AM talker doing well?"... most of the market can get WPRO on 99.7 FM. :)

I notice that WBWL is #20. #22 WCTK is gaining on them and WKLB doesn't even know they exist. Anybody know how much of "the potential 500,000" new listeners 101.7 actually got from this 101.5, 101.7, 101.9 radio engineering joke?

Was Howie back in PM drive for this rating period? I can't recall the date of his return.

Howie's return along with the rumor that Boston.com may link up with them for a new AM drive show moving Kuhner to late mornings, may definitely boost their ratings. Boston.com is the "go to" resource for many in the Boston metro so the cross promotion would help bring awareness to 680.

Too quick to tell. None of the changes should be evident overnight. Also, this facility change was done "for the long run"...so it will take a few years to see if this helped 101.7 with audience...and hurt the others with audience. Hard to look at a few months of 6+ numbers and judge this a success.

Keep in mind these changes are most important when it comes to maximizing value for the stations (not so much an immediate increase in audience). Does making 101.7 stronger in a major market make the station more valuable? Absolutely. Does it bring more value than any decrease it might bring to the other stations? Probably. Again, time will tell.

I'm glad you labeled this business about boston.com's being part of a morning venture with WRKO as a RUMOR. If what Kuhner himself claims is true, viz, that his program has the highest ratings of any previous AMD talk program, then WHY would 'RKO move him to another timeslot?

And re rumors on this site: yeah, there've been a few doozies of late; to wit, WODS is dropping AMP and returning to "classic hits"; WMEX has been / is being sold.

Inquiring minds want to know: do you now work, or have you ever worked, for Clear Channel?

Amp isn't going anywhere

Well.... As I said, WBWL has done squat rating-wise since the 101.5-101.9 debacle began.

WWBB 101.5 was consistently around 8 before. Since the cut to Class A, they have consistently been around 4.8.

You didn't have to wait so much as one Book to watch 101.5 lose 40% of its audience and stay at that level.

WCIB 101.9 is even going to wind up in worse shape. WCIB's signal cuts were entirely over land. Look at a map of the Cape and then attempt to tell me that they have not lost 50+% of their listeners! That is if the laws of physics haven't also been changed by iHeart.

Just looking at the cards currently on the table, do you honestly believe that this debacle is, or ever will be, anything more than a pathetic joke?

It didn't take but a couple of Books to immediately demonstrate this folly. Time ain't going to heal this stinker.
