KJR & KIRO: You have both officially been humbled, my friends.

The arrogance that Dave "Softball" Mahler, Justin & Gee , Puck and Furness, "Bitter" Bob Stelton, Mike Salk, Brock Huard, and that black guy who hosts the "12th Man Extra" on Friday nights on KJR, the arrogance that these men have displayed over the past year:

- being amazed whenever the Seahawks lost
- talking about how 'these defensive breakdowns were never supposed to happen again' (trademark David Mahler)
- talking about how the Seahawks were supposed to make the playoffs every year from now on and would never again post a double-digit loss season like in the Jim Zorn-Elvis Grbac era
- acting as if Marshawn Lynch was going to have another 10 years ahead of him as a top-tier running back
- being outraged when Ricardo Lockett got injured and completely ignoring routine 'cheap shot injuries' that the Seahawks defense commits
- refusing to condemn Richard Sherman for his profanity laced tirade after the NFC title game

All of that is over with. More players will leave in free agency/retirement, the defense will be another year older, John Schneider will have another year of drafting at the back of the pack.

Now then, let's get talking about Thunderbirds hockey!

You're dead on with your assessment but really, all the radio/TV sports personalities in this town are homers - no one more so than Rick Rizzs.

Good to hear from our sports listeners, remember you can't grumble or complain if you don't listen. Looks like several people will be tuning in to hear the post season Sea Hawk talk.

Seattle Thunderbird Hockey on 1090 the Fan! At least they kept that local spots programming.

I'm not a listener to sports talk, but I get those same vibes from the news media as well.

What the OP said is one reason I listen to the national sports network shows. They seem to have a more objective view of all the teams, not just the Seahawks.

Been in this industry a long time and can't remember ONE station/market that didn't lean toward the local teams. Better include KIRO, KOMO, KING, and Q13 Fox TV in your assessment, LordAntler. What would you prefer the locals do? By the way, are the Thunderbirds at all relevant?

There are a lot of us who like hockey, and would like some coverage of the NHL in Seattle. Considering the fact that Seattle does not have a NHL team, it's not surprising that all of the sports outlets ignore NHL news, but hockey fans take what we can get.

Don't take it so hard. We, in Phoenix, have had a variety of hockey teams over the years the old RoadRunners and the NHL Coyotes being the latest pro teams. We also have ASU's new NCAA Division 1 team (only 1 of 2 teams in the southern states). Know how much media time all those teams get, combined? Zippo. Nada, Squat. Our media cheerleaders seem to have reserved all their TV time for the Team of the Moment - the NFL Cardinals. I am not saying it isn't deserved but they could toss a bone now and then to the hockey teams. Hell, they don't even cover the Suns much any longer. Lousy sports! Lousy, lousy, lousy!!!!!

I don 't mind the homerism, that happens everywhere. What I don't like about the talk shows on KIRO-AM is the meaningless banter that is just unlistenable. Whether it is Brock and Salk, or Justin and Gee, it is just meaningless drivel most of the time. And the talking over each other is out of control, seriously. They only get on track when they have a good interview, otherwise, it is like overhearing a bar conversation. Give us all a break. You guys could do so much better.

I only listen to KIRO to hear John Clayton - he provides great objective analysis and is respectful to his callers.

Thunderbird game attendance averages about 4500 a game. In contrast, UW Men's Basketball, which gets a lot more coverage, averages around 6500.

PS Fordranger, listen to the national radio sports talk shows. I hear them talk about the NHL a lot. They discuss NHL a lot more than Major League Soccer, for example (which I've yet to hear a national sports host discuss, although they did talk about soccer during the World Cup).

Related: KJR has just picked up Portland Blazer basketball for the rest of this season. Why would they do that at this point of the season?

No the Blazers are below .500 right now. To correct my earlier post, KJR has just picked up 7 games through the regular season. I'm not sure what this is all about, but my guess is they have some openings in their schedule. In-fill, at best.

The "Jailblazers' on KJR, who would have thunk it?

For many years I'd walk by the mighty 950's modulation monitor slammed up against 124% positive peaks as the crowd noise from Key Arena echoed through the air. We have Howard Schmaltz, the coffee baron, who's ego wrote checks he couldn't cash, running a previously successful team and business into jeopardy with his accomplice, Mayor (let's not plow the streets during a snowstorm) McQuimby, who cashed in on working a deal for selling the team. It makes my stomach turn, hearing about something that was so good for so long, be ruined because of incompetence and corruption.

My gut guess is that since they're not airing Canucks games anymore, they've got some open slots on winter weekends. I do find it interesting that KJR's hosts are talking much more NBA this season, although it's more Warriors or Clippers (Mitch Levy's favorite team).

But back to KIRO-AM. The morning show with Brock and Sauk continues to be unlistenable. The two continue to talk over each other constantly, and their feuds sometime cross the line of being friendly to angry. If this is the formula that they want to pursue, more power to them. But I can't listen to it.
