TEGNA cleans house at KING - Bounds/Renner/Enersen/Byron Out

Yep, I saw that, too. Jim had some pretty serious medical issues from what I heard. And his performance was almost painful to watch...it affected his speech and he had gained much weight. (I likened it to watching Dick Clark after his stroke...you know he was really good before his medical issue...you want to support him...but realistically it was painful to watch.)

I had assumed we were talking 4:30am to 7am on KING and 7am to 9am on KONG. Correct?

Yes...sorry, I rarely am up at that hour, but you are correct, it is called "early morning prime", and is important. By the time I wake up they have moved to KONG! Will be interesting to see who they plug-in here.

No worries! Who knows -- maybe they will find someone younger and hipper to co-anchor for the morning news?

Liz at Q13 is perhaps the morning star right now, but I have no idea what her contract stipulates. Plus, she has also worked at KOMO, so a third affiliate would probably be a longshot. Her next move will probably be a top 5 market.

The overall dumbing down of Technical standards at both KOMO and KING TV make local peg channels look more normal/professional. Sad to see the audio, color balance go out the window so they can cut a job or two and save money.

I will say I like the KOMO set better than the KING set. At least KOMO can get the color balance on all the panels in their video wall.

All four network affiliates have new sets since September of last year. I liked KING at first, but now that I see how they are using it, it is probably the weakest. Unfortunately, due to their move to Safeco, they have little space to make it work. KIRO and KOMO indeed look the best, KCPQ is decent.

Other than Mark Wright as main co-anchor, has KING names any other replacements? Chief Met? Backfill on weekday mornings for Wright?

My guess is Jim Guy will get the C.M post. However, wouldn't be surprised if they import someone younger (disclaimer: not an EOE comment!)...

Mornings star Joyce Taylor, and all they need is a good looking male co-anchor to make it work. There are plenty of them out there...perhaps former KOMO sportscaster Chris Miller, now at CBS2 in Salt Lake City. This guy is set to move up, and this could be a good move. (I have no connection to him, just watching the industry).

Annie Andrews just left KEPR Pasco to be in Seattle. Maybe she'll get a job at KING, but most likely KOMO (Sinclair owns both KOMO and KEPR, plus KIMA).

I am familiar with Annie's work. She definitely has anchor skills, though I would project not coming in new to a high-profile position. As I understand it, she moved due to her husband being transferred. So we shall see...could become a strong reporter or weekend anchor, and yes she has Sinclair connections.

Former Q13 Weekend Met Parella Lewis has been doing work at KING5 the last few weeks. A scan of her twitter doesn't indicate any announcements about what her role is there. I'm not in Seattle right now, but from what I've been able to glean (and from watching when I'm there) it looks like Jim Guy and Mary Lee have being rotating the main met shift. I wonder if they've added Parella to that rotation. Once upon a time, stations used to actually let their existing staff rotate through an open position to see who fit the best with the rest of the crew. Is this what's happening now?

Also - I saw that Tim Lewis "walked away" from the sports desk at KOMO to spend more time with his girlfriend and family. He posted on Facebook about how hard the weekend evening shift is with having a family, and wrapped things up a few weeks ago.

That is an interesting item about Tim Lews, (the son of longtime KOMO anchor Dan Lewis.) Perhaps there is more to this story, but I won't speculate any further...

The speculation would be that Tim was never top-15 talent and only got the job because of his father's influence. With dad gone, Tim's out. The FB post is much more personal about being his choice to leave the business entirely (similar to what we saw from Sam Argier, who also walked away) than is typical in a non-renewal situation.

And another former Q13 news person, Angela King, has been freelancing at KING5 and NWCN. Over the July 4th holiday, she anchored KING 5 News at Noon and late mornings/early afternoons on NWCN. Angela's twitter indicates that she is freelancing.

Angela King is old news...she's been doing this for about 2 years or more now.

Rumor is KING TV is looking to revamp their SoDo studio to make it more competitive with KOMO and KIRO. They have limited space, but they perhaps are making the space more on-air effective. According to insiders, they are trying to make their window to the street more attactive. A work in progress, since there is so much truck traffic outside their studio window. They can't change that. Will see what they can accomplish here...

Almost looks like KOMO may be picking up where KING dumbed-down. Robert Mac is now on KOMO. Would not be surprised if KOMO became the home team station. What heritage is left at KING. Did TENGA dilute the brand too much with the change to the new location/on air personnel, leaving KING open to being in check-mate.

Is Robert Mak going back to doing a weekly show, ala "Up Front"? Or is he just a reporter at ch 4? Haven't heard that name in years!

Part time, on special assignments:

KOMO also picked up Jim Forman as a behind the scenes assignment manager immediately after he took (was forced to take?) the KING buy out. I wonder if his health will ever allow him to get back in front of the camera full time again.

Allen Schauffler is also at KOMO for Olympics coverage. Don't know what kind of contract he's on.

Interesting to see Sinclair gobbling up the talent in this market. KIRO has also upgraded a bit with a second evening anchor team in Dave Wagner and Siemny Kim.
