Jimmy Cromwell Named GM at Birmingham’s WIAT

How has WIAT news done, competition-wise, with the "big three" in recent years? Back in the olden days when it was WBMG, it was always the laughingstock of Birmingham news, often being outdone by reruns of Andy Griffith (or was it M*A*S*H?) on WTTO.

They launched into the whole "WIAT — it's about time" thing not too long before I left the Birmingham area, but those years didn't seem to produce much in the way of results against the stalwarts and ABC 33/40.

In more recent years, I've found that WBRC, ABC 33/40 and WVTM are all streaming their news, in addition to WIAT, so it's easy to check out the "home team news" via the web… From what I've seen WIAT has finally put out a pretty slick, competitive looking product, but no idea if that's gained anything in the ratings or not.
