Sinclair and other Right Wing Outlets Rumored to get Bill O'Reilly

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...-conservative-media-outlets-article-1.3158226

Although he has been widely depicted as a domestic abuser and serial sex harasser, Bill O’Reilly remains a hot TV property.

Conservative media outlets are circling the former Fox News Channel ratings king in the hope of creating a potent competitor to Fox News Channel.

“Bill O’Reilly has been nothing short of a powerhouse in cable news. We have received thousands of requests to add Mr. O’Reilly to our team,” Charles Herring, CEO of San Diego-based One America Network, told MediaBlast in an email.

He added: “I’m sure several national cable news networks have expressed strong interest in Mr. O’Reilly, and One America News is no exception, but we have no further comments at this time.”

Sources tell Mediablast that O’Reilly is also being pursued by executives at Sinclair, a huge right-leaning broadcaster.

Sinclair owns 170 TV stations, including Chicago’s superstation WGN, and struck a $3.9-million deal this month to buy Tribune media and its 42 stations.

The family that controls the company — four brothers: David, Robert, Frederick and J. Duncan Smith — are reportedly considering a plan to transform wide-reaching WGN into a conservative all-news network to compete with Fox.

A rep for O’Reilly did not return calls for comment. But O’Reilly has made no bones about his desire to keep his voice out there — and may also be mulling the launch of his own media outlet, much as Glenn Beck started The Blaze after he left Fox in 2011.

Fox forced O’Reilly out after The New York Times revealed that he and Fox News had paid $13 million to settle claims by five alleged abuse victims. The disclosure prompted more than half of his advertisers to bolt from “The O’Reilly Factor.”

O’Reilly has denied all the accusations leveled against him. A week after losing his job with a $25-million payoff, he addressed his exit on his podcast — a far-lower-profile platform.

Apparently Sinclair and One America News are two of the outlets named to get Bill O'Reilly a talk show deal for their venues.

And if Sinclair gets Bill O'Reilly, will they force all of their stations to air his program, ala Full Measure? And possibly commentary segments during local news? Shades of 'News Central'...

O' Reilly certainly wouldn't be on in a prime time slot (most are network affiliates)., and I doubt he'd be in a weekday daytime slot either.

We haven't talked about it in a while, but Sinclair still owns The Tennis Channel. Imagine a new cable channel with O'Reilly as the centerpiece.

Bill O'Reilly spoke out in an interview with Glenn Beck today:

http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/12/media/bill-oreilly-addresses-fox-news-firing/index.html

He says he will take legal action the next time he's attacked. One wonders why he didn't take it before he was fired.

Umm? Sinclair and other Right wing outlets have to decide if they are willing to take the liabilities of O'Reilly. Obviously for Fox News when current management decided to remove O'Reilly because he held too many issues for the network who is forced to make reforms because of the Racial and sexual harassment issues at the outlet plus lower the median age.

Local Access at 7 PM is a possibility.

I could see daytime maybe even late night or maybe put it on WGN America in one of the day parts or night parts I don't think Sinclair can make WGN America into all news channel as pay providers could get rid of WGN America. Because of contracts stating that it has to be general entertainment channel with some news but can't be fully news channel just my opinion and I have no clue of the contracts with pay providers and WGN America.

Attracting a much smaller audience than FNC with the same demographics (mainly male and over 65). I know you can't believe that Sinclair acquired The Tennis Channel to telecast tennis, but the sport delivers a younger, more affluent niche than angry right-wing talk. A Fox News knock-off, featuring O'Reilly, would probably bill better under any circumstances, but how much better? Fox launched Fox Business Network as a challenger to CNBC (and to a lesser extent, Bloomberg), but the ratings have been pathetic. How much better than The Tennis Channel is FBN billing?

Most of my fellow "right wingers" do not regard Bill O'Reilly as a "right winger".
That's a pejorative that means virtually nothing these days.

Sounds like a particular former President who was also not a "right winger".

I agree, but he has publicly called his firing a "liberal hit job," which sounds like something Hillary Clinton talked about 20 years ago.

The fact of the matter is his enemies would have had a much harder job had he been a bit more careful in his private life. Same with the Clintons.

However, he now has a topic and title for his next book: Killing O'Reilly.

Trumpism or Populism and traditional conservative are not the same thing. Even Rush was walked away from "advanced conservative studies" to embrace whatever Trumpism is. There's no money in being an anti-Trump Republican.

To me, the talker who's had to move the least to embrace Trumpism is Michael Savage, although I sense he still doubts Trump's sincere support of Israel. But on social issues, criminal justice, immigration, religious freedom, Second Amendment, climate change, and other issues, Trump checks a few more of his boxes than Rush's.
