Another Dispute For Dish As Lilly Stations Get Yanked

Just days after reaching a new retransmission fee agreement with Citadel Communications for ABC affiliates in Providence, and Lincoln, Neb., DISH Network has, by law, been forced to yank stations owned by Lilly Broadcasting off its lineups as yet another retrans fight has erupted. This one has the ACA ticked off: CBS and ABC stations serving Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are impacted.

Viacom, Charter Nearing Impasse in Carriage Talks

Cable networks owned by Viacom Inc. could stop airing on cable systems operated by Charter Communications if the two parties can’t reach an agreement later this week, the latest sign of friction between the New York owner of Nickelodeon and Comedy Central and the large cable distributor.

Viacom is planning to run a “crawl” on its networks on Charter telling viewers the TV outlets may be disrupted if the tone of its current talks does not change, according to a person familiar with the matter. Ads talking about the negotiations are also possible, this person said. Charter reaches approximately 16.5 million subscribers. The company broadened its national footprint in May of 2016 by buying Time Warner Cable for approximately $65 billion.

Lovely, Spectrum's in another dispute. Seems like no matter what cable or satellite provider you have there's always a big dispute every year.
 
I definitely think Spectrum has become worse since the merger with Time Warner. Before the merger Charter only rarely had disputes, and TW was the worst. Now it's like whoever did the negotiations at TW is still causing the disputes now. :mad:
 
Slightly off topic, but I found out today that as if this wasn't bad enough, Spectrum now wants to drop all of the Viacom channels (Spike TV, Comedy Central, TV Land, CMT, MTV, VH1, BET, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite, Teennick/The Splat, Logo, etc.) They haven't done so yet, but they've been running ads about it all day today. They say a total of 22 channels could be lost by tomorrow night. This cable company used to be very reliable, but I'm starting to get fed up with some of the things they've done recently, like this. It's just a shame that the only other alternative in our area is satellite TV, and I don't see us switching to DirecTV or Dish Network, mainly because of the outages that can occur during inclement weather.

Time Warner Used to be bad about contract disputes and Charter had almost none. But now that they've merged they've apparently taken on TW's tactics. :(
 
Very close to Spectrum shutting off the Viacom channels. I think the consent agreement ends tonight.

Yep. I'm watching Cops on Spike TV as we speak. It's weird how many of these disputes (at least the ones that have affected Time Warner/Spectrum thus far) oftentimes seem to work themselves out without any channels being lost, although I know that's obviously not always the case, as we've seen with DirecTV, Suddenlink and, more recently, PlayStation Vue. Speaking of which, I'm debating the idea of cutting our TV service with Spectrum (but keeping their phone and Internet services) and switching to an IPTV provider, such as Sling TV or PlayStation Vue. I may start a new thread regarding pros and cons with both services. Some pros and cons I already know about (Sling has more channels, but PS Vue is cheaper), but there are probably others I don't know about.
 
Well to no one's surprise, I see America Spirit station owned Fox 40 WDBD in Jackson, Miss., is still off the air on DirectTV after nearly 3 1/2 weeks. I wonder when or if, DirectTV, will add a regional Fox Station until this mess is cleared up.
 
I guess there is a dispute coming up with between Univision and Verizon. Flipping channels this morning I saw a message scrolling in Spanish at the bottom of Channel 47 (WUTH-CD) the Entravision owned UniMas station in Hartford about Verizon and Univison and an 800 number to call. I think the message is from the network because I don't think Verizon covers Connecticut for television.
