ABC to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse

90 years old, and still not in the public domain.

I doubt Disney will ever put his stuff in public domain. Fortunately we have Warner Bros/7 Arts and some other very fine cartoon makers to watch besides Disney.

As far as Disney animation though I always thought the "instructional" cartoons with Goofy were much funnier than the intentional cartoon offerings.

Seems ironic since I just found a copy of Mickey's 60th Birthday special in the last eBay VHS lot, taped off KNSD San Diego...god how I miss John Ritter! Basically the plot - Mickey vanishes, and most of the show is based off a local newscast...with Ritter in the anchorchair following updates as to Mickey's whereabouts. Carl Reiner was also in that special.
Here's hoping the November 4th special will be great as well.

I thought it was a decent special. It was great seeing Bobby Burgess and the other lady (Sharon Baird, I think?) in the Mickey Mouse Club salute segment. And the entire audience as honorary Mouseketeers was cute...
Great rendition of 'You've Got a Friend in Me' by that children's choir!! Flipped back and forth with 'God Friended Me' and 'NCIS: L.A.' on CBS.

I was hoping it might be suited for young children but, alas, no. It was much more like a traditional Hollywood awards show. I really doubt my 7-YO granddaughter would have understood or appreciated much of anything shown. I am really getting tired of Disney's hammerhead approach to marketing through its entertainment. I'll show her Boris Karloff's 'Grinch' instead. Something that is pure entertainment and she can understand (and yes, with an important message).

Last night's ratings according to TVBytheNumbers, shows God Friended Me and The Simpsons both beat Mickey on Sunday. Of course Sunday Night Football got a 25 share too...
