77 WABC/New York Adds The Ben Shapiro Show on January 2019

Hannity has been relegated to 9-12 evenings in Philadelphia also. He has a good show but it is predictable .
Savage said he will be on WABC from 3-4. From what I understand he has not been a ratings disaster for them . I find him quite interesting most days. But I have Rich Zieoli on here locally so I don’t listen to Savage as much . Shapiro is rapid fire and should do well . The issue with both WABC / WOR I find really annoying is on weekends . It’s almost all nonstop health discussions .

Shapiro is one of the few radio talk show hosts who actually is smart and informed. His knowledge of the law, history, international affairs and politics makes him far superior to the majority of radio yappers. A big plus is he doesn’t have callers, who generally are the worst aspect of talk radio.

100% Agree. I listen to his podcast everyday and he has a mailbag segment every friday and there are always smart questions because they pick through them.

He does a good job of making himself sound smart, by spewing out talking points so fast that you can hardly keep up.

That's because when he's challenged, his arguments quickly fall apart. For example, his solution for people living in low-lying coastal areas that will be affected by climate change is "sell your homes and move":

Shapiro sounds smart because he is smart. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, which gives him a big advantage over other talk show hosts in discussing matters related to the law, such as the Mueller investigation that has been center stage on talk radio.

Mark Levin is also a lawyer, and Savage is a Ph. D. Not sure if that means any of them are right in what they say.

Just because you don't agree with them doesn't make them not smart. Also, just because one has a degree does not make one smart automatically. Governor of Wisconsin Scott Walker does not have a college degree and he was a successful 3 or 4 term governor and many of our presidents never went to college.

As far as Conservative talk, Hannity is a hard listen these days to remain tuned in long periods but I can see the appeal to remain tuned in longer for Savage, Rush and Levin. But I just do not see it with Shapiro's voice and cannot stay tuned in even for a minute. He puts me right to sleep which is unusual for me no matter what I am listening to.

These hosts have all adjusted to appeal to Trump voters more so than the Republican establishment as not to lose listeners. With the establishment right resoundingly rejected in the 2016 election for a populist, rather than appeal to those listeners they are going back to that well with an original never Trumper that opposed Trump on populist issues like America first on trade.

Given these things, in my opinion, it seems like an odd choice. Perhaps hand picked to nationally herd votes accordingly on the right rather than picking a better host that can provide a larger audience.

Not at all. He is best when challenged and has a good, well reasoned rational answer for those that question him.

Funny, I feel the exact opposite. I can't take more than a few minutes of Savage, Rush and Levin...but I look forward to Hannity and his interactions with people...something the other 3 lack.

Self-serving edited "dumb college student smackdown" videos don't prove anything meaningful. They're the equivalent of late-night TV hosts asking people on the street questions and then showing only the dumbest and silliest answers.

As someone stated earlier, he sounds smart, because he is smart. A Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard is pretty impressive. Can you beat that

His responses don't "fall apart". They are concise reasoned responses. I have seen him in person (unedited).

But I have the impression nothing would "prove anything" to you. But no one is here to "prove" anything....just to point out another perspective.

Bottom line: He's an entertainer. He's being hired to entertain people on the radio and attract and audience for advertisers. Hopefully he'll do that at WABC because they really need help in that area. Otherwise he should run for office and we'll all see just how smart he really is.

That's the point, isn't it? His presentation is part of his act. Let's not turn radio talk show hosts into more than what they are.

This is one of the Cumulus Owned stations airing Ben Shapiro. The Ben Shapiro Broadcasts were a result of Savage cutting hours on other threads I seen though.

I think Shapiro is a good replacement for Michael Savage. While I don't agree with much Shapiro says, at least he's a better communicator then Savage is IMO.

As much as I dislike Ben Shapiro, I dislike Michael Savage even more. His rambling, unhinged mess of a radio show was badly dragging down WABC's ratings.

Now if they can only give Curtis Sliwa a better co-host than Rita Cosby. His show hasn't been worth listening to since Ron Kuby left. I know the two of them didn't get along off-mike, but it made for entertaining and engaging radio.

While they are at it, they should dump Chris Plante and replace him with someone who is a little more serious about talking politics on the radio. I cannot listen for more then ten minutes before I lose patience and punch in WOR Radio.

In addition to being very smart, Shapiro is very quick and concise No “ums,” “uhs,” “you know?s” etc that plague many talk show hosts.
