End of AM, FM in new cars in 2-5 years?

Seems those links are both someone's opinion. I will wait until the "money talks" to make a personal decision. Right now, were I to buy another modern car I would want a CD player if for nothing more than backup for the stick.

Of course, that assumes I will actually buy another car. Very doubtful. I have a 2012 with 20,000 miles, a 2014 with a touch over 40,000 and a 2016 with 9,000. I put about 5,000 miles per year over all three. The 4th car (van) is for hauling stuff and gets even less mileage. Won't be maxing it out unless I live to be 100.

CDs have the best sound quality--way better than analog FM--but those jewel cases are thick and bulky, which barely fits in the center console, and noisy (if it bounces around while driving).

Many stores (Fry's Electronics, Sam's Club) sell very thin CD cases which are about half the thickness of a traditional one. I use traditional thickness cases for my movies and the thin ones for the car. They do take up a lot less room.
