New KMLE Chandler Phoenix Logo

A) Why is this even news? New logos are now deemed worthy of a nationwide release?

https://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/189058/kmle-phoenix-unveils-new-logo

B) What the.....???? Looks like you'd see this logo on frozen hash browns or Pepperidge Farm cookies.
Are they trying to buddy up to ASU with the gold ish maroon ish colors? Is it me or is there absolutely nothing to convey anything that the station is about? Maybe Cabela's
Guess it fits in with the whole "has to be organic" movement in some programming/promotion heads...but what do I know...

This is how the marketing department addresses a bad ratings streak:

"Press materials describe the emblem as “a fresh, new logo that matches its vibrant personality and that reflected its heritage."

If they focused on putting a "vibrant personality" on the air, they might not be so far behind KNIX.

They've dropped over a full ratings point in just 3 months. New marketing won't fix that.

Just like the iced KOOL logo, the Camel bites the dust. So how are the Middle Eastern Men of the Media gonna grab a hump and wander aimlessly through the desert without our beloved Dromedary?

Which reminds me, can one suck the hind teet of a camel? If so, that may be what happened.

Wasn't the original KMLE "Camel" mascot from 1988 a creation of Disney animators (given that Roy Disney's Shamrock Broadcasting were the ones that flipped the station)?

All I can say is that it isn't as bad as KNIX's 2016 logo. But it's still pretty unimpressive.

That could be a country music station anywhere in the West, really.

Or anywhere there are some mountains... Appalachia comes to mind. Just not Florida.

Generic, boring, bland. Not even the flair of a Gremlin.

Camels, really?

I know of a former PHX PD who once bragged about the sheep where he grew up... only to have a ewe released in the lobby of the station one day, complete with a pink bow and a valentine's day card...

But camels...

Eerily similar to Joe Camel..(cough, cough)...but darned more creative than the new logo!

Come to think of it, the mountains kind of look like a sleeping (or dead) camel. It's a metaphor for the station's current performance.

Currently, the station is about a distant second in the ratings compared to KNIX.

And yeah, they've been adrift for awhile now. A rotating door of morning shows and air talent, lackluster presentation, nothing musically which makes them stand out vs KNIX, and no connection whatsoever to their heritage.

KNIX has a tenuous connection to their origins (the colors in the logo vaguely reminiscent of Buck Owen's guitar), but they have talent that has been part of the Valley country scene for years. Adults who grew up with Tim & Willy or Ben & Brian or even Ben & Matt are going to pick Tim, Ben, and Brooke over...who's on KMLE's morning show now? Oh that's right...two people with no history in country music at all.

And the logo looks like they very much wanted to rename the station "107.9, The Mountain."

This sounds like the classic down-book reaction by a sales-oriented manager: change the logo and get new jingles.

This is happening at a time when country stations around the country are on an upswing. However a few Entercom stations (Phoenix and Seattle) appear to be struggling.

A few weeks ago, Entercom's country format captain said his position had been eliminated. Perhaps someone needs to fill the void there at least informally.

I’ve never seen anyone try, but Bactrians and dromedaries both have 4 teats just like cows, so I suppose someone could give it a try.

So the next anatomical camel fact is: yes, these humped ones have cameltoes.

YIKES!

Very appropriate for today which is Humpday!

The logo shows a mountain.... Camelback Mtn.... the best known mountain in the Valley of the Sun.... not defending the logo and change, but for those of you not from AZ...there is a connection.
