They preempted that for this?

The Big Four all cut in for a White House press conference at 3:23 Eastern. In NYC, this affected Dr. Phil (WCBS), Ellen (WNBC), General Hospital (WABC), and The People's Court (WNYW). All stations outside NYC signed off between 4:20-30. FOX and CBS signed off first, followed by NBC, and ABC padded the rest of the half hour with discussion.

In NYC, all four switched to another press conference from NYC mayor Bill De Blasio at 3:48. WCBS signed off at 4:24, returning to Judge Judy during a commercial break. WNYW signed off at 4:29 and returned to TMZ Live. WABC and WNBC already air news at 4:00.

Bay Area now going to mandatory lockdowns in six counties beginning tomorrow. And so it begins....
New York and Seattle by the end of the week I bet.

KNDO, KAPP and KING were running Jay Inslee's press conference earlier this morning. KIMA ('taking action for you'? what?) proves again that they don't care about their community, and have no way to interrupt the network feed for live coverage of one of the most important press conferences this state has seen so far with COVID-19.
And KAPP actually stopped running it after 11:30 or so, when Inslee started taking questions from reporters over the phone.

Stations were into syndicated programming at 12:10 and were interrupted shortly after by the network special reports with President Trump and the COVID-19 task force. KNDO came in very late however.

PBS to have Coronavirus specials on the PBS app

Confronting Coronavirus: A PBS Newshour Special (Premieres Thursday, March 19, 8-9 p.m. ET) — This special, from PBS Newshour, will focus on health precautions for individuals and the public at large, as well as the pandemic’s economic impact in both the United States and globally. Anchored by managing editor Judy Woodruff, it will include interviews with officials, reporting from Newshour‘s bench of special correspondents throughout the world and a virtual town hall with curated questions from people across America, to be moderated by NEWSHOUR correspondents Amna Nawaz and William Brangham.
PBS Newshour’s regular daily programming and clips are also available to stream on the PBS Video App and PBS Passport.

Spillover — Zika, Ebola & Beyond (Re-airs Thursday March 19, 9-10 p.m. ET and available for streaming on the PBS Video App) — Throughout the last few decades, diseases that spill over from animals to humans have been on the rise. This documentary examines what’s behind their increase and reveals strategies to prevent devastating outbreaks. Join scientists as they investigate the rise of spillover viruses like Zika, Ebola and Nipah, and learn what science can do to anticipate and prevent epidemics around the world. This PBS special was originally broadcast in August 2016 during the outbreak of Zika virus. The public health strategies depicted in this film apply to managing the current coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.

Frontline “Coronavirus Pandemic” (Premieres Tuesday, April 21, 9-10 p.m. ET) — A special Frontline report on the government response to the coronavirus and the human toll. The two-part special investigates the federal response versus Washington State, the outbreak’s U.S. epicenter; and in the Midwest, how the outbreak impacts poor children.

Note some PBS affiliates might end up pre-empting the PBS programming for Local news such as KPBS San Diego where the Local PBS affiliate does a local edition of PBS Newshour.

Probably states might end up with similar rules though.

Note California has made a statewide emergency over mitigating the COVID-19.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – Gov. Gavin Newsom announced sweeping statewide actions Sunday in an effort to mitigate the spread of the new coronavirus.

“The most important thing, again, is to protect our most vulnerable, protect our seniors,” said Newsom.

Residents age 65 and over, which is roughly 5.3 million people, were asked to self-isolate in their homes, along with the chronically ill, since they are most at risk of dying from the virus.

“We are doing so with our eyes wide open at the magnitude of what that means and the need to provide wrap-around services,” explained Newsom.

Newsom said he will be setting up a system to get food to these seniors while they can’t get out of the house.

The newest guidelines also recommended that bars, nightclubs, breweries and wineries close.

Restaurants can remain open but with some restrictions.

“The consideration is to socially distance patrons within these establishments,” said Newsom.

Restaurant owners are instructed to cut occupancy in half to allow for the recommended 6 feet of space between customers. Newsom admits that these announcements are not law — rather guidance for the public and believes enforcement will not be necessary

I expect the rest of the United States to end up having rules similar to the Bay Area when it comes to lockdowns due to COVID-19.

Minnesota Governor had a new press conference in regards to closing food places, coffee shops, etc to dining in. Started at 5:30pm which pre-empted the national news on the Big 3. FOX does local news.
Once the questions started at 6 the stations broke away at various points. It was fully done around 6:15

ABC pulled a scheduled repeat of The Good Doctor tonight and replaced it with a coronavirus 20/20 special. Doesn't affect the series since the season finale was scheduled to air on 3/23 anyway.

All of the NYC Big Four, including WCBS this time, broke in at 10:18 AM for a press conference from governor Andrew Cuomo. The following programs were affected:

WCBS 2: Let's Make a Deal/The Price is Right
WNBC 4: Today with Hoda & Jenna
WNYW 5: Wendy Williams/The Real
WABC 7: Tamron Hall

WABC cut off the conference at 11:00 and switched to The View. WNYW also cut it off and JIP'd The Real at 11:02. WCBS signed off at 11:18 after the full conference and JIP'd Price is Right during the commercial break before the first Showcase Showdown/Big Wheel.

Nationally, all four networks cut in at 11:39 AM Eastern for another presidential conference. This cut off Price on CBS at the start of the final pricing game. Days of Our Lives was fully pre-empted on the East Coast. While Days was listed on WNBC-DT2 Cozi TV, Emergency still aired at 12:00. Jeopardy! was fully pre-empted in Houston on KTRK, which airs it at 12:30E/11:30C. FOX only aired it until 12:00; WNYW switched to local news and 25 Words or Less aired at 12:30 as normal; WLUK Green Bay had The Doctors at 1E/12C before the other networks signed off. Sign-offs on the Big Three took place between 1:10-20 PM Eastern. At 1:15, WABC cut it off a bit before the other ABC's and is currently pre-empting Strahan Sara & Keke with a "special edition" of Eyewitness news, possibly in part to make up the 12:00 newscast. SS&K is not airing on 7.2 Localish.

At this point anytime the White House has a press conference over COVID-19 just assume that OTA's in general including the network O&O's will simply pre-empt the Trump edition of the COVID-19 press conference for local editions such as Governors, and Mayors at this point. If people were really interested in the Presidents response to COVID-19 at this point they would go straight to Cable News or the national news apps such as CBSN, NBC News, PBS, and ABC News Now at this point.

In the Sacramento area whenever the president has his press conference the local media here goes straight to the Governors response to COVID-19 and go to Sacramento Mayors response.

In the Bay Area the President's press conference gets pre-empted for local fallout.

The Big Four in both NYC and Philadelphia all broke in at 2:16 for a press conference from the governor of New Jersey. At 2:27, the NYC stations switched to a conference from mayor Bill De Blasio. Around 3:00, Philly moved on to another conference from Dr. Valerie Arkoosh regarding the coronavirus in Montgomery County.

In NYC, WABC signed off exactly at 3:00 so General Hospital could air uninterrupted. WNYW signed off at 3:02, JIP'ing The People's Court, then WNBC did the same with Ellen a minute later. WCBS did not switch to Dr. Phil until 3:21, but De Blasio's address appeared to continue on.

In Philly, WCAU (NBC) was the first to sign off at 3:33, and the other three followed suit within the following 10 minutes.

The following programming was affected:
WCBS 2/KYW 3: The Talk
WNBC 4/WCAU 10: Kelly Clarkson, Ellen (JIP)
WNYW 5: TMZ, Extra (encore of previous day), The People's Court (JIP)
WTXF 29: The Dr. Oz Show, TMZ Live (JIP)
WABC 7/WPVI 6: Rachael Ray, General Hospital (JIP'd on WPVI; aired in full on WABC)

At least two stations are pre-empting evening programming with coronavirus specials.

WTVY in Dothan, Alabama (CBS) is pre-empting Wheel of Fortune at 6:30 PM Central.

WDIV in Detroit (NBC) is pre-empting a repeat of Ellen's Game of Games at 8:00 PM Central with an hour-long special.

WBZ Boston (CBS O&O) pre-empted most of Jeopardy! with an address from the mayor. I imagine the others in the Big Four did the same with their respective 7:30 programming.

A pre-emption not related to coronavirus...

Tonight was the Florida primary. Two Orlando affiliates pre-empted the 7-8 PM hour with coverage.

WESH (NBC) pre-empted Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood. Neither show is airing at all and neither has an encore airing.

WFTV (ABC) bumped Tuesday's episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune to Saturday from 5-6 PM, replacing two of four airings of Family Feud's weekend run. The other two air on indie sister WRDQ from 7-8 PM, opposite the weekend runs of J!/WOF on WFTV.
