They preempted that for this?

At this point anytime the White House has a press conference over COVID-19 just assume that OTA's in general including the network O&O's will simply pre-empt the Trump edition of the COVID-19 press conference for local editions such as Governors, and Mayors at this point. If people were really interested in the Presidents response to COVID-19 at this point they would go straight to Cable News or the national news apps such as CBSN, NBC News, PBS, and ABC News Now at this point.

I can tell you from working for communications teams and also in newsrooms in situations like this mayors will time press briefing different from governors and governors different from federal officials, it doesn't work out 100% of the time, but this isn't a worry in newsrooms. All officials want to get as many as eyeballs as possible.

KWWL to air a Special on COVID-19

KWWL, Quincy Media’s NBC-CW affiliate in Waterloo, Iowa (DMA 90), is airing a live, half-hour special on the coronavirus situation, Coronaviris: Facts. Not Fear, tonight at 6:30.

The special will featuring a panel of local health experts, including the public health director of the Black Hawk County Health Department, the VP of clinic operations at UnityPoint Health and the chief medical officer at MercyOne Northeast Iowa.

Texas Nexstar Owned stations will air a special with the Governor on March 19th in regards to COVID-19

The town hall will open with Abbott providing the latest information on the state’s response to the coronavirus crisis, followed by a 15-minute question and answer session between Abbott, the other state officials and KXAN anchor Robert Hadlock.

The broadcast will then allow approximately 45 minutes of questions submitted by viewers across the state. Viewers can pose a question to the governor or any of the show’s guests via a variety of social media platforms using the hashtag #AskAbbott.

Preference will be given to those questions submitted as videos rather than texts.

“We are proud to harness the combined resources of our local station operations throughout Texas to bring this virtual Town Hall to life, and we are grateful to Governor Abbott for allowing Nexstar to serve as the host of this special event,” said Tim Busch, Nexstar’s president.

At least two stations are pre-empting evening programming with coronavirus specials.

WTVY in Dothan, Alabama (CBS) is pre-empting Wheel of Fortune at 6:30 PM Central.

WTVY announced Tuesday's WOF will air Saturday morning at 6:30 AM on 4.3 CW, still listed as half of Rachael Ray (I guess that would have been a makegood? I didn't know RR had a weekend run).

More NY and PA coronavirus press conference cut-ins today. On all of the Big Four, NY Governor Cuomo cut in around 11:25 AM or so (on Price is Right, it was during bidding for a fireplace), and lasted through the news at noon/Days of Our Lives.

NJ Governor Murphy cut in to the Big Four in both NYC and Philly at 2:07 PM. In NYC, WNYW switched back to Extra at 2:41, WABC again signed off at 3:00 in order to show General Hospital, and WNBC signed off at 3:02, JIP'ing Ellen during her monologue. WCBS did not air this conference and stuck with The Talk and Dr. Phil uninterrupted. In Philly, all four stations aired Murphy's address as well as another address out of Montgomery County, and I believe it lasted until the 4:00 newscasts.

Pittsburgh also had a press conference from around 2:00-3:40 PM, but only WTAE (ABC) and KDKA (CBS) aired it. General Hospital and Dr. Phil were JIP'd. WPXI (NBC) and WPGH (FOX) stuck with regular programming.

WALA/FOX in Mobile, Alabama, and presumably other stations there, also have a local press conference on right now starting sometime before 3:00 Central and still going, pre-empting People's Court and Dr. Phil.

Also, Strahan Sara & Keke is pulled all this week for ABC News coronavirus specials.

Going out on a limb, but does anyone really prioritize knowing the minutes every station joined a news conference and what was interrupted during a...checks notes...global pandemic?

At this point press conferences will be held daily. Preemptions will be daily. Just a way of life now until we can find some way to get rid of it or slow it down.

Wheel of Fortune is pre-empted tonight on WHIO (CBS) in Dayton, Ohio by a local basketball show... even though all major sports have been cancelled.

EDIT 7:32: And Entertainment Tonight is pre-empted by an impromptu coronavirus special.

Even during a pandemic, the Jeopardy! favoritism continues...

Tonight, KATU in Portland (ABC) aired a coronavirus press conference from 7:00-7:40. The crawl at the bottom of the screen said that Jeopardy! would air "immediately following" the conference. At 7:40, Jeopardy! was JIP'd as if it began at 7:30, effectively meaning it was moved to replace Wheel of Fortune on the fly. After it was over, Shark Tank started at 8:00 as usual, and Wheel did not air.

KNDO Yakima preempted Family Feud at 6:30 for a half hour more of local Coronavirus news. I don't know if this has been happening all week as I haven't watched that much TV lately.

So what? Really, you’re complaining about nonsensical favoritism? Priorities.

If you tried to watch Jeopardy! and saw that Wheel of Fortune was on instead, and then stuck around to see that they skipped straight to the next show, you wouldn't like it, either. Of course, this never happens, only vice versa.

They re-rescheduled the makegood of Tuesday's Wheel to simply air Saturday evening at 6:30 PM Central on the main station, bumping the rerun to 4:00 AM Sunday morning.
