They preempted that for this?

Tonight was the Florida primary. Two Orlando affiliates pre-empted the 7-8 PM hour with coverage.

WFTV (ABC) bumped Tuesday's episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune to Saturday from 5-6 PM, replacing two of four airings of Family Feud's weekend run. The other two air on indie sister WRDQ from 7-8 PM, opposite the weekend runs of J!/WOF on WFTV.

Correction: the reruns aired from 5-6; Jeopardy!'s was pre-empted by a conference, except for the Sony Pictures Television closing logo. The Tuesday episodes aired from 7-8, though Wheel's was cut off by a breaking news update on the Orange County Jail hostage; it began during the contestant interviews, after the first Toss-Up puzzle.

If you tried to watch Jeopardy! and saw that Wheel of Fortune was on instead, and then stuck around to see that they skipped straight to the next show, you wouldn't like it, either. Of course, this never happens, only vice versa.

Or I’d be mature and understand that there was a different program on, particularly since there’s a pandemic going on. And accept that these things happen.

Yes, of course these things happen. I fully expect random coronavirus break-ins to happen. I've seen it happen to both Jeopardy! and Wheel and several other syndies on various stations this week, some affecting just one of the two game shows, some both. But this was the only instance so far of them deliberately putting J! before other shows, especially its companion show. It basically says "This show is better than the show we're airing now." as if the other show's fans and viewers and revenue don't matter. It'd be different if it was a show like Inside Edition (which has a bigger audience online than on TV) or an obscure, low-ratings show.

Like I said, stations bump Wheel for an alternate airing of J! all the time, but this never happens the other way around. It's a double standard, plain and simple. There are other ways to make up one pre-empted show without taking away the other.

They could have showed Friday's Jeopardy! and/or Wheel over the weekend like some stations do, although I just tuned in to a feed of KATU and it turns out both shows' routine Saturday time slots were pre-empted with the infamous Operation Smile infomercial.

Contestant: "I'll take 'RR Crossing' for $600, Alex." (All answers must contain a double "r")
Trebek: "It describes the belief that this show is given preferential treatment over 'Wheel of Fortune' in pre-emption decisions."
Contestant: "What is 'irrational'?"
Trebek: "Yes!"

Which part of Jeopardy has continuity is hard to understand?

It’s not a double standard. These aren’t children being treated differently by parents. They’re inanimate TV shows, and there are business decisions to be made. It’s not celestially mandated that preemptions, for any reason, be evenly distributed.

I can tell you from working for communications teams and also in newsrooms in situations like this mayors will time press briefing different from governors and governors different from federal officials, it doesn't work out 100% of the time, but this isn't a worry in newsrooms. All officials want to get as many as eyeballs as possible.

Well given that we are dealing with Panic over COVID-19 I expect the local news outlets to pre-empt the White House COVID-19 Press Conference for the Mayors or Governors "local Shelter in Place orders" Press Conference for the next 2 weeks approximately.

I understand the importance of the press conferences that actually give new information to the public. But a lot of them are unnecessary repetition especially at the federal level.

True on the federal level the only people who has to be watching the White House COVID-19 press conferences are mainly people who watch cable news and are mainly watching on how the big guy in the room is going to act.

If you are watching the OTA's its a different story its all about has the "Local Shelter In Place Order", "Non Essential Business Shutdown Order" announced by Mayor County Executive or Governor to reduce COVID-19 and that has much more immediate effects to us.

Even during a pandemic, the Jeopardy! favoritism continues...

Tonight, KATU in Portland (ABC) aired a coronavirus press conference from 7:00-7:40. The crawl at the bottom of the screen said that Jeopardy! would air "immediately following" the conference. At 7:40, Jeopardy! was JIP'd as if it began at 7:30, effectively meaning it was moved to replace Wheel of Fortune on the fly. After it was over, Shark Tank started at 8:00 as usual, and Wheel did not air.

Keep in mind that "Wheel and Jep" are sold in syndication as a pair. Since the individual station or group is paying for both, they can decide which gets preempted during breaking news situations. Some stations air Jeopardy before Wheel, where other markets are the other way around.

And importantly, those decisions are not based on the irrational idea that it should be done "evenly."

Trump just had a news conference. I don't know what stations did but in the East, most stations would have been airing news anyway.

I posted because America's Best Music interrupted the music, but the automation ran the commercials anyway.

Or it could have been WNAM. As soon as Trump introduced Barr, the music resumed. Just information that needed documenting.

Some states like New Mexico, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Oregon have had a press conference with their governors for the "Shelter in Place" orders. Maryland had their "Non Essential Business shutdown orders" announced.

Most affiliates ended it by 6:30 ET to show the national news, but some stuck with it through as late as 8:00.

WNBC New York aired an impromptu "special edition" newscast at 7:00 (like they did every day with impeachment coverage), then aired NBC Nightly News delayed an hour at 7:30, pre-empting Access Hollywood and All Access. The other Big Four in NYC all had the normal prime access programming.

WLKY Louisville (CBS) and WBFF Baltimore (FOX) also carried the President through to 8:00, pre-empting both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune in both cities (Wheel is first on WLKY; J! is first on WBFF), and also pre-empting CBS Evening News on the former.

Washington State has pre-empted national news for the Stay at Home Annpuncement.
