WTPA 1590AM - Radio Nouvelle Lumiere - Palm River/Clair Mel City

Just noticed yesterday that the former WRXB 1590 is now a Tampa station with a Creole Talk format. Not sure, if it’s religious talk, political talk or community talk, since I don’t understand Creole; when I first listened yesterday, it was coming in strong in St. Pete, but the audio was so distorted that I could not even tell what language it was; that has now been corrected. Of course this talk, might just be while they’re testing; we shall see.

With 9,600 watts day, it pretty well covers the metro area, but with 160 watts night, it just covers south and east Tampa. I’m thinking their antenna must be on the same tower or near WAMA 1550.

1550 IS 1/4 MILE away.. 1550 and 1590 would be way too close for a diplex.

159-0 is on one of the WQBN 1300 towers

Very interesting. The WTPA call letters have a long history (since 1962!) in the Harrisburg, PA market. I didn't realize they gave them up. As for this WTPA, I wonder if this will be the permanent format. Anyone know if the Bradenton translator is still on?

I guess I’ll have to plead temporary insanity/stupidly in thinking that a 1550 and a 1590 could be on the same tower! :)

Heard from a friend in south Tampa (just south of Kennedy near WTVT) and he drove to Brandon and back about an hour after sunset and said 1590 had a good strong signal, but then back in Tampa went west to Dale Mabry near Gandy and in that area, still a very listenable signal but could hear other stations beneath WTPA. So points to the west of Dale Mabry may not be listenable depending on location.

Also this friend mentioned that in the near TOH ID, stations in West Palm Beach and Orlando were mentioned as well as the Tampa station.

Sam Rogatinsky who owns WTPA 1590 just bought WBZW 1520 Orlando and WPBA 1340 West Palm Beach
