Four of our local FM stations have been off the air the past few nights

They are always on during the day and off completely at night even though their online live streams are still on playing music as usual while they are off the air.

The first thing I did was check Radio Locator to see if they all share the same transmitter and they all have their transmitter marked at the same location on the map, though they each have different signal power.

The stations still on the air at night have different locations for their transmitters.

The first night I noticed it, I thought it was just for maintenance but would that be the case for several nights in a row?

Anyone familiar with this kind of thing?

I'm reluctant to contact anyone because I haven't had much luck in the past trying to get specific info on issues with other radio or TV stations.

If this happened on the mainland, it would be a great DXing opportunity but with my location and nothing but mountains in the way of Honolulu, there's nothing to hear.

Thunderstorms and wind knocked several Yakima FMs off the air last night and all the way into this afternoon. 94.5, 104.9, 104.1, 91.1, 89.5, 92.9, 99.7 and 99.1 (Tri-Cities) were noted off during the peak of the T-storms. Got two new stations for the FM log: 94.5 K233CJ Walla Walla (Fox Sports) and 99.7 K259CT Milton-Freewater OR (relaying KTEL-1490). 104.9 had K285FN (Exitos) Kennewick along with a weak KEEH Spokane. 91.1 was KPBX-FM Spokane, 92.9 was a mix of KZZU and KISM both in like a ton of bricks, same with 104.1 KAFE Bellingham. On 89.5, K208BY Moses Lake (Spanish Religion) was noted. Lots of little bursts on 94.5 of music, nothing identifiable, likely lightning scatter related.

Could be. Perhaps they are doing something with the RF "plumbing" that can't be done with the stations on the air, but which is more complicated than can be done on one night alone. And with the limitations imposed by the Coronavirus, it is possible they don't want to call in additional labor.

Thank's, David.

That sounds like a very good explanation that never occurred to me.

There hasn't been any severe weather either which has taken stations off the air in the past.

Back in 1994 when Maui's KNUQ (Mainstream CHR back then) was at 103.7 with 100,000 watts, I could get a mediocre signal in Wainaku opposite of Alae Cemetery.

During my junior year of high school in Honolulu (McKinley), we didn't have an FM radio, But VHF TV channels 7 and 12 came in jwith only "rabbit ears" with some snow, but viewable. Of course, there was no reason to watch them since they were simply relays of Honolulu stations. Our location was a second floor apartment on Ala Moana Boulevard about a half mile from the Ala Moana shopping center.

I got a reply to an email I sent to one of the stations and they said the transmitter has to be powered down while some kind of work is being done and they will be back on the air all night pretty soon.

What stations were they? I saw something recently where four stations had been purchased by one new owner...maybe they are installing a combiner and single antenna.
