America's Truckin' Network on 700WLW Stops All Political Discussions

Apparently, Steve Sommers, son of Truckin' Bozo, told his audience this week that the show is going to move away from political discussions and focus more on topics that are directly related to trucking. The move came after iHeartMedia's corporate offices in Texas received complaints about the show. Sommers was given a warning from his boss about an unspecified comment made by one of his callers and asked his audience to avoid hot button issues like George Floyd's death and the Confederate flag.

End of an Era? Will this hold up over time? Is the show doomed if it can only talk about hours of service and other trucker specific topics?
 
Discussion of controversial issues, especially unsubstantiated claims and conspiracy theories, open the door to lawsuits and lots of other problems. Most advertising I see still have a list of shows where the spots can't air. Of course overnight isn't a big advertising period. But certainly the liability issue might be involved here.

Back in the day, the formula for many overnight trucker shows was highway conditions/weather, trucking industry news, friendly chat with drivers, and country music. Could that still work today for WLW? What percentage of long-haul truckers are still listening to AM, or FM for that matter? Don't most of them have SiriusXM?

I'm sure it depends on their routing and their age. The advantage this show has is it's live, while most of the other choices on radio and satellite are not. If you're driving late at night, alone, live radio can make a difference.
