Florida State University Sports Moves To iHeartMedia Tallahassee

iHeartMedia Tallahassee/Panama City and Florida State University (FSU) — and its multimedia rightsholder, Learfield IMG College — today announced a six-year agreement to be the official broadcast and play-by-play home of the Seminoles, effective immediately.

As part of the six-year agreement, 94.9 WTNT-FM will live broadcast all upcoming football games for the 2020-21 athletics season; FSU men’s basketball games will air exclusively on X101.5 FM; women’s basketball on Throwback 96.5 FM; and men’s baseball on 100.7 WFLA.

Hasn't WTNT broadcast it forever? We carried it in the late 80's and early 90's and thought the station continued to be the flagship for the network.

Gene Deckerhoff did it for us then, and still is there after 40 years. A great sportscaster and really nice person.

They left WTNT for WWOF in 2014: https://seminoles.com/seminole-img-sports-network-moves-to-red-hills-broadcasting/

On a semi-related topic, WTLY (formerly WNLS) has been downgraded to class D from class B with a transmission site still near the MagLab. With the proliferation of translators and now HD Radio to feed them, how long before the AM band is completely gone in that market?

Back in the late 80's and early 90's I ordered some Arbitron breakouts for game days and WTNT had 60 to 70 shares during the Noles games.

About 20 years before when I was briefly at WERC in Birmingham, we got some Pulse breaks for the Alabama games. Since our morning guy, Doug Layton, was also the voice of the Tide, that got us over 50 shares in a much more competitive market back then.

It's absolutely amazing how big radio can bee for those games as there are so many people who can not attend and can not view TV as they are driving, working or doing something else that requires their vision be elsewhere!

I believe it! Helps that the radio broadcast is top notch compared to the television announcers too. Mute the TV and turn up the radio is a thing promoted still.
