Meredith Axes 130 Across The Company: KPHO/KTVK?

tvspy and ftvlive are both reporting that Meredith has axed 130 people across the company. We know that Ashlee DeMartino is gone...Bruce Haffner may have been an early victim of the layoffs. Anyone other on-air personnel gone...or was it mainly behind-the-scenes people at 3/5? It's too bad that they couldn't hang on a while longer. It's a terrible time to be looking for work.

Wow. Guess we'll have to check Facebook and Twitter to see the fallout.

I remember the day 3TV did the huge cut. Beside Dan Davis and Brad Perry, Amanda Jahn (sp) and Heather Moore were let go.

I wonder if they axed any engineers or board ops. They really pi$$ed off some football fans this afternoon.

Channel 5 was scheduled to air both games of the CBS NFL doubleheader (Giants/Bears and Chiefs/Chargers), but bailed after the first game ended. They aired syndicated football-related programming before finally airing the Chiefs' game beginning late in the 2nd quarter.

Inexperienced board op? Mix-up by whoever schedules programming? A well-placed phone call from the Bidwills (who had the right to block the game), who later changed their minds?

Master Control

I thought I heard that Meredith was consolidating control into a "Master Control" location for all stations. That might have been the point of the wrong button being pushed (or not pushed).

Bruce Haffner may have been an early victim of the layoffs.

Technically, Bruce has not been an "employee" of AZFamily for some time. He left when he formed ChopperGuy and had a contract to provide helicopter coverage of weather, traffic and breaking news events. I don't think he is included in the 130 count.

Well, maybe not technically an employee, but Channel 3/5 did pay for his services. So, Meredit may have substantially cut the budget for live helicopter servies. Many other Meredith stations had 2 or 3 anchors cut from the station. Somehow, 3/5 seems to have avoided this type of cut, with only Ashlee D. being cut. I just wonder why...was the helicopter cut enough to not have to cut anchors?
