Spirit 105.9 Sold to KLOVEAIR1 Owner EMF

I just got a breaking news email from HisAir announcing the sale. The bulletin did not know if 105.9 would become K-Love or Air1. I would strongly suspect 105.9 will be K-Love and 92.1 in Hutto and 92.5 Sunset Valley will change to Air1. I would also guess that 106.3 in Gonzalez will remain K-Love as it would duplicate too much Air1 coverage with 97.7 in the San Antonio market.

Interesting the fact they already have KVLR in HD 92.5 also having Air one on HD-2 and on 92.9 K225CA.

My guess is that Air1 winds up on 105.9, as there is less listener disruption.

The HD on KVLR 92.5 has all three EMF formats--I found K-Love Classics on the HD-3 on recent Austin visits, and it wouldn't surprise me if that goes to 92.9. I've been wondering when EMF would start aggressively expanding the Classics format.

Still somewhat strange that K-Love is still missing from Texas' two biggest markets, but there is a branding conflict in DFW, and Houston already has similarly formatted KSBJ.

Current information about the deal indicates K-Love moves to 105.9, Air 1 to the hodgepodge of signals currently airing K-Love. Crista Ministries will an HD subchannel on one of the stations to air its own programming.

Is Crista is exiting the market and the replacement from the new owner is a very similar format, I'm trying to think of what they could possibly use that HD sub-channel for. I wonder if it could have something to do with the translator on 106.5 that KFMK is currently feeding?

I agree. I forgot to say about the HD-3 format. I think Air 1 would fit on 105.9.

It's already been announced that K-Love will broadcast on 105.9.

It's likely that Air 1 will broadcast on the trimulcast of 92.5 KVLR Sunset Valley/Austin, 92.1 KYLR Hutto/Round Rock and 91.9 KLLR Dripping Springs, all of which currently broadcast K-Love.

The Contemporary Christian format currently broadcast on 105.9 will move to a subchannel of 92.5 KVLR Sunset Valley/Austin for a period of two years.

106.5 is fed by KTXX, not KFMK.

I have all HD Radios.

KTXX HD-1 sports
KTXX HD-3 KOKE
KTXX HD-4 K287FG

105.9 HD-1 KFMK
105.9 HD-2 K293BF

If anyone wants to hear something more local, KNLE airs music given to them by listeners of the station and has nothing to do with huge music corporations.
I think this station should start streaming online. I believe they are barely getting by, though.

My guess is Crista will operate 92.5 HD2/the 92.9 translator when this is all over.

Crista has more than just contemporary Christian programming. It has a Christian country channel as well as a Christian talk station. It may also air some conservative talk on its talk stations. As far as I know, there’s no guarantee that Spirit will move to the HD subchannel.

Obviously no one has read the FCC application because it said it will be a noncommercial Spansh lanuage format.

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101821125&qnum=5040&copynum=1&exhcnum=2

"Subchannel Rebroadcast Agreement. At Closing, Buyer and Seller shall enter
into a subchannel rebroadcast agreement, substantially in the form attached as Exhibit A hereto
(“Subchannel Rebroadcast Agreement”) pursuant to which Buyer will allow Seller to use
(exclusively for noncommercial Spanish Language programming and subject to Buyer discretion)
one of the HD channels of the Station or an HD channel on Buyer’s station KVLR (92.5 MHz) for
a period of up to twenty-four (24) months."

There's always a party pooper to end the juicy speculation and flat-out wild guessing that are the hallmark of radiodiscussions with a sobering dose of facts. Booo!

I have not gone through the application yet, but this was exactly my guess earlier in the thread. Keliah rents a sub-channel from Crista and as a condition of the sale to EMF they need to complete that contract. It is interesting that the sub-channel that is specified in the deal is on 92.5 rather than just continuing on 105.9. I wonder why that is.

Fair enough. It’s been a rough and long week for me. I'm experienced enough to know that 80% of the population doesn’t care about my problems, and the other 20% is usually glad I have them.

So, I'll spare you the details but thank you for the information and for doing the legwork

Thanks for that info. My guess is since EMF will have both their main K-Love and Air1 formats in analog they may not want to keep the HD signal on both 105.9 and 92.5 to save money. So EMF may decide to drop the HD on one of them. I would think they would keep 105.9 in HD since it is the strongest signal but maybe that would depend on what costs less and current contracts.

EMF's purpose in having an HD signal is usually to feed a K-Love or Air1 translator. But they could still use an HD signal to feed K-Love Classics or the Spanish Christian music format they partner with Radio Nueva Vida since they already own a translator in Austin at 92.9. And since they have a contract with Crista to continue an HD signal they might as well use it to feed their own translator. It is possible after the 2-year agreement EMF may make a decision to drop all the HD signals and sell the translator.

Sorry about your problems Kent. You probably do not want to say what your problems are and maybe this board does not want us to talk about what our problems are here but stick to radio discussions. I hope it gets better for you. It has a tough year for me and my wife as well. I broke my right tibia and fibula on December 22, 2019, when I fell on ice and I am still suffering. I also have diabetes and often do not feel good. My wife is in constant pain from a stomach ulcer and pudendal neuralgia. We live in a selfish world and we are basically on our own. I do not think there is anyone on earth who is not going through something or if not soon will be. This life is temporary.
