That Sound is Jingle Bells

Great decision on Entercom's part. Solidify their slice of the Christmas pie now so they don't have to play catch up later. Wait too long and you'll miss out on the rewards.

The question is what they will flip to after Christmas. Wouldn't be the first time there was an after Christmas surprise on 94.1

Warm flips 11/4 at midnight. I would bet a little $$$ on that.

The reason they're all flipping so early is the general mood of the country. We're all sick of 2020.

The next 2 months are going to be majorly stressful....

News flash: 2021 shapes up as more of the same. Don't expect magic when the Times Square ball drops. Come to think of it ... will it drop, and will anyone be allowed on the streets to see it?

BREAKING: 2021 has the potential for change (at least the second half.) We shouldn't lose sight of that.

They already said it would go virtual. Yuck.
Looks like I skip NYC NYE for the first time ever :-(

This is very true, the beginning of 2021 will likely look much like 2020. The only difference is that there is hope for positive change to come in 2021. Recent surveys indicate that most people consider 2020 to be the worst year of their entire life, so I think it makes sense that people are hoping for a fresh start.

I'm guessing those people didn't spend 1964-1966 in Vietnam.

Correct. All Christmas songs on the K103 playlist now. I don't think KARY 100.9 has flipped yet in my neck of the woods.

FWIW KCMS flipped, so again there will be a 3-way battle for ho, ho, hos...

Santa 101.5 arrives Thanksgiving Day, so they'll be late to the game but they'll make it a four way battle. I mean, at what point is there diminishing returns on Christmas music?

I heard KCMS 11/3 for an hour. Nothing too unexpected and certainly on-brand, even with two versions of Joy to the World.

Warm 106.9 was commercial-free in morning drive on 11/5 - a cellular company footed the bill in return for a minimal mention.

I'd like to ask you all if it makes sense for Warm in particular to go all Christmas in 2020. The Christmas format iHeart gives them is a car crash - extreme oldies from the Nat King Cole and Andy Williams era, novelties by Willie Nelson, relatively new stuff from Googoo Dolls and Taylor Swift.

There was a Hollywood Reporter article from 2011 confirming that Christmas was a winner for broadcast radio. Justification was that ratings doubled and that new listeners outnumbered those chased away. Some stations further justified the switch by saying listeners in Nov and Dec would stick around in Jan.

With Warm I don't know if this holds. First, a lot of pros here assure me that advertisers don't make buying decisions based on Christmas ratings. Second, Warm skews a lot more younger and active than when I moved here in the Nineties ... "Billie Jean* and "In the Air Tonight" are not relaxing favorites no matter what the station says. A Christmas mix that was compatible with 106.9 in the Nineties can't possibly work today, can it?

KRWM wins Christmas every year. They need those ratings. For anyone that has lived in the Puget Sound for 5 years+, they know 106.9 *is* the Christmas station and will religiously keep it as a preset in the car or at home. I know our family did when I grew up there.
Are they still playing Stop the Cavalry and Sippin' in Seattle's Latteland this year? At least in the latter: better sip your Latte in take-out land avoiding the riots...
Last year's favorite Xmas presets were KVGQ/Overton NV, KKRB/Klamath Falls OR and on Christmas Eve, WSBZ/Fort Walton Beach and their Seabreeze Smooth Jazz Christmas. The rimshot in Vegas had a massive holiday playlist and a lot of rarities (including Eric Clapton and a lot of R&B Xmas cuts). I've talked about KKRB before, and their playlist is also big and wide. Only station where I've heard the Ren & Stimpy Muddy Mudskipper holiday song.
