2021 Predictions

Since 2020 is thankfully nearly behind us -

* There will be a handful more MLB games back on Broadcast TV (perhaps as many as 20-30 per team), especially in markets where Sinclair owns stations, in order to better promote the new Bally's Sports Networks.

* Sony will promote its newly purchased Crunchyroll Streaming Service with a block of Classic Anime on its Get TV Diginet.

* If Dancing With The Stars does return in Fall 2021, it gets moved to Freeform, while Monday Night Football sees a full time return to ABC.

* At least one station group will attempt to set up their own free/premium streaming service.

Dish Network will get sued for retrans contract disputes or could go out of business if they do not have their own studios for content creation.

AT&T will sell off Directv so they can improve on the HBO Max operations.

Youtube will continue cracking down on COVID-19 conspiracy theories by politicians and pundits.

OAN and Newsmax will attempt to grab MAGA Supporters off Fox News for the battle of Trump Audiences.
The Lincoln Project will continue going after Trump on TV ads until the inauguration for the Biden Administration is over.

my predictions for 2021:

Covid19 will still be a huge problem in 2021, as with the vaccine now being slowly rolled out, people will still get sick and spread the virus, and many aspects of TV will be impacted by the peak of the pandemic outbreak.

Trump finds a way to stay in power as he appoints himself into a new role that is higher than the president while Biden becomes president but all the president's powers are useless as Trump overrides it in his new dictator role this undermining the 2020 election results and all the news networks cover it nonstop.

AEW overtakes WWE's 2 main show in the TV ratings, thus triggering a huge split between Vince McMahon and his daughter Stephanie and her husband HHH which leads to a mass exodus of talent who are on HHH's side.

Fox gets out of NASCAR coverage after this season, sells their rights to NBC Sports making NASCAR exclusive to NBCUniversal owned networks.

more TV stations will struggle to fill content due to Covid19 related postponement/cancelations of sporting events.

DirecTV and Dish will stop carrying local stations all together sighting the local channels owners are getting to greedy and sight TEGNA and Nexstar and Sinclair as why they are doing alway with local stations.

more carriage dispute in all kinds of paid TV providers, even streaming services too.

Jeopardy is canceled due to no one being able to replace the irreplaceable Alex Trebek after his passing this year.

AT&T spins off WarnerMedia to save it's self from going bankrupt.

the Kardashians launch a new reality show on another network because they are desperate for attention

a major earthquake strikes California either LA or the Bay area and the network will cover i for a few hours but goes back to nonstop Trump news after he does something after the presidency of Trump ends, eve if he becomes a dictator who still runs the country

After all of our predictions for 2020 fell through?

++Biden will be inaugurated, but Trump will continue to provide ratings and clicks, so will be "shadow President".

++New FCC chairman will work to re-instate Net Neutrality

++iHeart entertains an offer from an overseas company.

5G cell phone towers will launch in more places around the nation but the conspiracy theories will still escalate around the country.

Youtube and Netflix will consider having a Texas office in response to Elon Musk and HP moving the executives from the San Francisco Bay Area to Texas as part of corporate tax write-off reasons.

Nexstar will put Newsfeed Now on its stations like Meredith and People TV.

Monday Night Football will return to ABC and ESPN will take over TNF.

WJZY will finally expand Good Day Charlotte to the 9am hour.

In 2021 the national conspiracy theorists and their pundits will arrive in Sacramento to broadcast their COVID-19 rants on TV and Youtube in relation to the vaccine and stay at home orders. The reason here is that California has implemented parts of a Pandemic plan within the state. Yes it's going to be the Richard Pan, Xavier Becerra, Kamala Harris, and Gavin Newsom conspiracy that the Right wing outlets and Anti-vaxxers influencers will run with in 2021.

Near-full to full audiences and likely no masks at TV tapings by summer at the latest. Once the vulnerable and healthcare workers, nursing homes etc. get the vaccine (who will be first...), I think we see a major drop in Covid activity and enough for governors to reopen states to near 100%. Including Newsom. Hotels, theme parks, museums and tourist attractions, restaurants and bars (whichever ones survive...we've already lost over *2,300* in WA), musicians and their agents and concert staff, theater actors and stage crews, stadium workers, and of course TV production crews, hosts, and audience coordinators are all counting on a normal summer 2021. I think we'll get it.

Ken Jennings or George Stephanopoulos becomes the new Jeopardy! host. It stays on and is renewed through 2024-25.

The Doctors FINALLY gets canceled. Meanwhile, Maury Povich will announce his retirement and the end of his talk show as his contract expires in spring 2022; and one of either Daily Mail TV or Dish Nation becomes the next syndicated magazine to be canceled.

Grey's Anatomy announces its series finale either in May or next May (2022). Likewise, NCIS announces its series finale but Los Angeles and New Orleans will continue.

One of the daytime soaps says adios for good.

The FCC makes plans to get rid of more UHF channel space for 5G wireless networks. (Probably channels 30-36)

Dish and DIRECTV will continue to lose subscribers month after month due to continued carriage disputes and high bill prices.

President Joe Biden is inaugurated with no spectators allowed, creating a historic scenario for the once-every-four-years event.

BTW, Newsmax has already been becoming a contender against Fox News. Their Greg Kelly show beat Martha MacCallum on FNC not too long ago. Meanwhile, ratings are still pretty good for Hannity, Tucker and Laura Ingraham on FNC.

Mike Joy will announce his retirement Steve Kornacki should be the new host of Jeopardy Jessica Rosenworcel for fcc chairman The Voice FINALLY gets canceled Jordan Fisher and Paige VanZant replacing Tyra Banks next season on Dancing with the Stars and 2021 Summer Olympics opening ceremony the highest ratings of any TV show in the history of the world

I have a troll prediction coming to TV Anti-vaxxers and COVID-19 conspiracy theorists will sue media outlets that have virologists and immunologist as pundits because of political reasons. Note this is part comical and part likely hyped up in 2021 for political reasons.
The serious ones may be sillier and grounded in less reality than the parody.

CCI,Comcast will add some of the Digital Sub Channels to their lineups National feed of them.
Hearst adds other Sub Channels to KMBC/KCWE and like Start TV,Decades to its stations.
Nextstar purchases one of the low power stations in KC area to add a secondary channel for Fox4kc.

World Series gets in a rotation between Fox,ESPN,CBS.
NBA Draft also shown on NBATV and at a different site each year site of NHL Draft with GM's live to talk Trades and expanded to 4 rounds with 3 and 4 the next day.
NBATV hires Rick Bucher and Mark Stein as Insiders.
The NHL gets back on ESPN and does the Divisions Geographical this year and puts Seattle with Mighty Ducks,Kings,Sharks,Knights,Coyotes next year.

Some cable channels either merge or shut down due to shrinking subscribers and low ratings.

The NBA will have their TV ratings on both ABC and ESPN fall to record levels which Disney cancels their TV deal with the NBA will take a TV rights deal with Fox out of desperation.

Both the MLB and the NHL has record high TV ratings during the year.

The NFL cancels Thursday Night Football due to oversaturation of pro football during the week, leaving the Sunday and Monday games (MNF returns to ABC from ESPN with only one game televised).

The NWA has their shows Powerrr and Shockwave air either on the CW or Ion (either their main channel or their Ion Plus channel).

Fox has the rights for the World Series until 2028. Dish Nation been renewed until 2023.

Ken Jennings will be named the new Jeopardy Co-host for fall 2021-22 season Jeopardy will be on for years to come it will outlast us all.

Broadcasters will finally ditch the E/I & nature shows and cartoons will return on Sat Mornings which should've never gone away.

TEGNA & Meredith someone will buy either of them my guess is Byron Allen since he has billions to spend in media he'll buy at least one of them maybe Gray will be one of the buyers as well just my opinion.

Nexstar will place Antenna TV on the subchannels on WoodTV, WOTV or WXSP . from WXMI Fox17 Scripps will put one of the Katz channels that are owned by Scripps. Also The List will finally be on Fox17 in the fall of 2021 syndie season was surprised that it didn't make it onto this fall like Right This Minute.
