Fairly good opening to Cuba and Florida last night after midnight CST zone. Did received WNRP Gulf Breeze on 1620 with a talk show. Also got Cuba on 770 (Radio Rebelde) as well as several usual Cuban relogs. I was also hearing a Spanish speaking station under WHAS on 840 which I suspect was Cuba, but could not get a positive ID.

Mild surprise this evening.... WMBD blasting in on 1470 on the Winnipeg SDR. Steady and basicall7 alone with positive ID between approximately 9:30 and 8:45 CST (0330-0345 UTC). 727 miles.

Thanks for the "heads up". I caught it with a pretty good signal at 10:25PM CST. Jack Brickhouse would be proud. Also heard WGRB in a crowd on 1390.

A few powerhouses from from down south: XEX 730 CDMX and XEW 900 from Mexico City. Also XEWA 540 San Luis Potosí, a first for me from my home in Iowa — and which I thought had left the airwaves. It’s still cranking out the hits, apparently. Also KKDA from Dallas.

2 or more Fox Sports affiliates on the Winnipeg rig (one a split second behind the other) on 1380 with an R&B station mention 92.3 and 98.9. stream matched to WBEL, Beloit IL. One of the Fox Sports's was WOTE, Clintonville WI, positive ID after NBC 22 weather.

WNRP 1620 Gulf Breeze, Fla. has been in more often than not overnight and remains in. Nice "Penascola's Morning News" mention leading into commercials, chat about Florida's flop in Cotton Bowl in last half-hour.

I've heard WNRP dominating the frequency the last couple of evenings. Here in Houston, 1620 is usually Cuba and WTAW

WBEL amazes me. 600-mile hop to Winnipeg, and I never hear them at my location nighttime from 50 miles away. Although, given their night pattern, I can't say I'm exactly surprised.

WBEL had been off for a few months earlier this year. I never did find out why, but now they're back, and with a fair-good signal at my location.

And @Radioman, regarding WMBD, yep, Jack Brickhouse would have been proud of his alma mater. For 5kw, WMBD seems to turn up just about everywhere in the central time zone!

Finally, as for WGRB, I tried for it on 1390. Didn't hear it last night, but I've always assumed it could be done. I've heard it before in the Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ontario northwoods. One thing I did hear last night was WIND battling it WEBC. WEBC getting the better of it.

A little critical hours love from Wisconsin to the southwest suburbs of Chicago: WFAW 940 Fort Atkinson, Wis. with an ID and "Oldies 940" slogan during Wisconsin basketball. Their oldies format continued online, but the ID was clear as a bell. Second new station of the day, 498 on AM overall.

WGRB wasn't easy, but it was there near the bottom of the clutter. I heard it last year on the Arctic receiver. Whenever I check the Winnipeg receiver it seems that WEBC and WIND are always battling. Take your pick of which one is on top depending on when you tune in.

WFAW is actually the most likely nighttime station where I am (Chicago lakeshore). And they do play a lot of sports... to the point where I thought at first that was their format.

Cyberdad mentioned WBEL in Beloit. Surprisingly I've never actually picked it up where I live, despite them being a 5KW nondirectional. But as soon as I drift into the inner suburbs like Skokie or Evanston away from the lake they'll start to be audible. Contrast that with even weak Milwaukee stations like WNOV (250 watts) which you can hear where I am, though not too strongly.

I have been hearing WIND 560 up near the Straits of Mackinac recently right before Sunset. WMFN 640 Peotone comes in stronger though. It's beamed more that way. WGES/WYNR/WNUS/WVON/WGCI/WGRB 1390 used to be strong and alone much of the time. Now, WLCM Holt, MI interferes with its relatively new 4.5 kW 4 tower slight dogleg pattern.

I just had to listen to the John Landecker New Year's Eve 70s special on the Central Indiana and Winnipeg SDRs. Almost like listening to Landecker on WLS back in the day. Fair to middlin' signal in Winnipeg.

I just went back to an SDR that I hadn't tried yet this season in Key West, Fl. Surprisingly good signals from the midwest.
WGN & WBBM quite strong. Even WLS was in over Cuba, but no WSCR. WMVP was weak, but briefly heard. WABC in a crowd.
Heard WTAM, but the strongest of all was WLW. Almost like a local at times. Forgot about this receiver, but I'll be checking it out more often.

Format change alert. WWCK 1570 and it's translator on 107.3 W297CG have changed from Talk to Classic Hits from the 1970s to 1990s. At 1 kW nondirectional, it comes in surprisingly well some days on Afternoon Daytime Skywave into Critical Hours within 250 miles or so. As long as you are not too close to another 1570, give it a try. The format should stick out from the other Talk stations.

This is where one can hear Cuba "like a local"
