97.3 FM allotment in Orange, Mass up for auction in July

Is it possible to move it towards e.g. Springfield?
No. It was dropped in fairly late in the game and is very tightly spaced against WJFD 97.3 in New Bedford, WZBG 97.3 in Connecticut and several other adjacent-channel allocations.

Besides, Springfield already has a signal on 97.3 MHz. W247DL, translator of iHeart's WHYN-FM HD2, broadcasts from Provin Mountain with 250 watts.

Translators are secondary service. If a full-power station were able to move closer to Springfield (it can't) in a way that would cause it to receive interference from W247DL, the translator would be required to reduce power, change frequency or leave the air. Says so explicitly on its license, as it does for every translator.

Nope. W247DL is also on 97.3 only a few miles west of springfield.

(But there are other spacing issues that would make it impossible to move 97.3 closer to Springfield, especially WZBG in Litchfield CT.)

But what about 97.1 and 97.5? both are translators that I can get clearly just west of springfield

97.1 is W246CC from Bolton, CT
97.5 is W248CR from Windsor Locks, CT

Translators are secondary service. They are always subject to being bumped by a full-power allocation.

The old WJDF 97.3 Orange, MA facebook page keeps churning out weather forecast posts every day.. must be automated.

$138K for 65,600 in the 60dBu contour, 32,880 in the 70dBu contour.. Unless the old gear is free and onsite, it would be hard to justify this price in Eastern Mass.
