Alex Trebek’s last ‘Jeopardy!’ champ, Brayden Smith, dies unexpectedly at 24

“Jeopardy!” is suffering another tragic loss after the death of beloved host Alex Trebek.

Brayden Smith, a champion competitor during Trebek’s final episodes he filmed before losing his battle with pancreatic cancer, died at age 24.

He died unexpectedly last Friday in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.

“The ‘Jeopardy!’ family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brayden Smith,” the show said in a statement. “He was kind, funny and absolutely brilliant. Our deepest condolences go out to Brayden’s family. He will be missed.”

Wow this comes after the death of Alex Trebek from a few months ago.

A couple of years ago, Jeopardy had a female contestant who won several days in a row but died before her shows aired. Her condition was known at the time and, if I remember correctly, producers got her on the show faster than expected because she was concerned that if they waited too long, she might not be able to do the show.

When her episodes ran, Trebek did a special introduction telling us about the situation. It was recorded after her passing. Her partner or husband said that her winnings would be devoted to medical research.

Okay folks, this is an obit. I am deleting several posts which are critical of the poorly-written NY Post copy.

Why is this an issue? The subnets are full of shows in which virtually every actor is long gone yet they are still shown. Matter of fact, Jeopardy reruns are still being shown with Alex as host. Death is a fact of life.

Not trying to open a new subject but don't understand why death of a popular person has such a taboo surrounding it. Especially in Alex's case since it was a well known fact that he had a very serious disease.

Don't think that was Frank's point. He deleted off-topic posts (of which one was mine.)

Again, tough news about Braydon. I watched his run and he seemed to be a fine young man.
