Thanks for killing the non-radio politics section, it was getting too toxic anyway

i know this will be thread will be closed or deleted, but i like to thank Frank and David for killing the non-Radio politics section as that place was becoming way too toxic where it was on the brink of causing numerous rules violations had it been in a non-politics section, while the Politics in Radio discussion will stay for now (i think it too needs to go as well as it's gonna become even more toxic). i understand that American politics in general has gotten so toxic, flame wars have broken out over it. so to Frank, David and and the mods, i like to give you guys a thanks for a good job on the subject of American Politics.

now is the time to slowly migrate away from politics that result in fights and flame wars and mass banning, let's get back to focusing on Radio and TV.

I understand why it was done, as this is a "Radio Discussions" website with the specific theme of Radio Broadcasting right in the title, and to Frank/David's point, there are plenty of other message boards and websites devoted to discussing politics. That said, I really enjoyed the political-based banter back and forth in that section and appreciated reading the perspectives of various people on this site (I admittedly learned a lot, too!)

Personally I find that engineers and techs sometimes see things from a slightly different perspective or have a bit of a different take on certain topics than, say, most of the on-air talent and those in the limelight and in front of the camera. To me, technical types have a more common sense-based view, tend to be more laid back when discussing topics like politics and are more willing at times to see things from another perspective when warranted, and to agree to disagree. While the political banter here could get heated at times, I always found it respectful for the most part, and a place where different points of view and perspectives were welcomed and everyone was free to speak their minds.

The politics posts were interesting at least. I found that while I identify as conservative, I am so far from the stereotype and I am sure those on the other side of the political fence are the same. If anything, I think the classification of both political sides is a giant box, versus the small little box the stereotype seems to indicate. While a few comments seemed to try to fit us all in those tiny boxes, I was impressed with how as a group we were adult about things and discussed rather than bullied. If there is any takeaway, we should feel much better of our fellow man should we be typical of the general population. I suspect we are. While I cannot say minds were changed, I think we inspired thought and if so, we're all the richer by doing so.

While I agree that politics unrelated to broadcasting doesn't deserve to be on this forum, I think that this forum shouldn't be completely free of politics, as political talk radio, station sales to people with political backgrounds, FCC regulations etc. involve politics in one way or another.

I have to echo the sentiment that we acted as the adults in the room. I totally enjoy the give and take, and, as others have indicated, different viewpoints were encouraged, and I too have taken much good away from the discussions.
