Boston's WRKO-AM 680 to Debut The Grace Curley Show

I forget the shows involved but at one point WRKO dumped one syndicated show for another
in that 7 pm time slot and said due to breaking news (war on terror etc) they wanted a show that was live or only delayed a few hours, not many hours old.
Interesting time to debut--Sean Hannity's national
show started on Mon 9-10-01....On 9-11 expanded news coverage was heard on local
stations including sports (WEEI) and music.
I first heard of the events on WEEI Dennis and Callahan, with updates from ABC news. Marathon bombing coverage the week of Monday 4-15-13 was also heard all over the dial
that whole week including the Thu night
encounter with police in Watertown and
the city/area lockdown on that Friday.

The 7pm segment you speak of on RKO is what airs just before the prerecorded Jesse Kelly show which airs live from Texas at 10am and is replayed on RKO starting at 7pm!

I've almost completely tuned out of RKO at this point. I'll still listen to K000nah, but after that the radio is on other dials.

I was a pretty religious listener to Pags show on RKO at night, but now I listen to Pags podcasts over the weekend via the iheart app instead, and evenings I've been tuning in to WABC in NYC. I find that Jesse Kelly dude completely bland. Why you would replace Pags, who (for whatever its worth), ranked 12 on the "Top 100 Talkers" list with a complete unknown, baffles me (unless it was a cost-cutting move, or RKO is trying to appeal to a younger audience.)

I think you nailed it. RKO is trying to appeal to a younger audience, that's why they have that twit on from noon to three. I listen to Talk1200 until noon. I'm done with the limbaugh morbid show. I tune in again about 3pm-ish. Hannity comes on at three and he can be annoying especially when he plays the victim....'don't tell anyone you know me, they won't be your friend anymore', 'you don't want me in your place of business, you'll go bankrupt when people find out I was there', bla bla bla. I listen to him until he gets annoying, then turn to Howie. Howie's been phoning it in for years and still has the twit on with him so I basically just tune out most of the time. I don't actually listen to Jesse but when I'm getting ready for bed I turn the radio on and there he is. It's unfortunate that they moved Pags to 10pm. Pags was actually live from 7-9 here and then the last hour was a replay of his first hour.

Wait: Jesse Kelly's show is breakfast reheated and served for dinner? I never knew, but, then again, I never bothered to tune in. Yeah, way to go to earn points for "live, local" talk.
Yep, Jesse's show actually airs live at 10 am but the smartypants at RKO decided it would be good to air stale radio at 7pm instead of airing Pags which is live from 7-9p eastern, with a replay of his first hour from 9-10pm, but hey, what do we know, we're not geniuses when it comes to radio, we're habitualists dontcha know. RKO is after a younger audience that's why Jesse is on and why the twit is on in the afternoon.

Soooooo, GOONer is going to Plymouth Rock this weekend. Both RKO and Talk1200 have been airing his latest promo. Plymouth Rock eh? Apparently he wants people to tune in Monday so he can tell you all aboot it. (Yes I spelled it aboot, that's how Canadians say about.) Anyone who has been to the rock, knows all aboot it and I'm guessing the drama meter is going to be off the wall. He'll be in the washroom crying in his Molson.

Kuhner believes the best audience in the business live in caves and his show is their only connection to the outside world. I will never forget the time he went into great detail about what goes on in a restaurant kitchen as if the listener had no clue

WRKO runs O Reilly s 2 minute and 30 second update just before 10am O Reilly also has a 15 minute update that airs at noon. O Reilly also does an hour each weekday on WABC. Quite a fall from grace for the former Ming on Cable News if you ask me

Grace is maybe 30, not sure.Kuhner is about 52.
She has 9 affiliates or so, Kuhner stuck at one.
Grace's LinkedIn said she graduated from Providence College in 2014.Maybe she was born around 1991 or 92. She was on The Grateful Dev radio show at WDOM, 2011-13.

Howie has 25 stations or so and still has a bit of a following though he will turn 70 next year. In
recent years he's brought aboard the likes of younger people like Curley and Taylor Cormier
and trying maybe to appeal to a younger audience. Wonder what are the ages of most Howie listeners?
Am 59 myself and remember the days of
Williams, Burns, Brudnoy etc.
Recent years have seen the passing of various hosts like Don Imus, Rush, Larry King, Jerry Doyle (he was 60), Ed Schulz, Alan Colmes etc

Williams btw left WRKO in 1998 and turned up at the likes of WROL 950 and WMEX 1060 (I think; brief). WROL was around 2002-early 03
and Jerry passed away at 79 in 2003.

I think Grace, Taylor, and former producer Steve were all under 30 when Howie hired them since going independent.

Some of it has been subtle (particularly when one of the aforementioned millennials has the taste of a 90 year old and the cadence of Jerry Williams), but I do believe they've helped inject some life into the show.

I remember how flat the start of the 5 o'clock hour was getting, when it would be the 3rd playing of the intro, followed by Howie reading the phone number, followed by Howie plugging his book, followed by the poll question ad read, followed by the Chump Line ad read, before any real content started to air. They (unfortunately unsuccessfully) attempted to dump the long intro, pushed out the poll question to a later segment, and put the Chump Line ad read into the middle of that segment, so that the hour doesn't start with a flat line.

Sounds like systemic Gracism to me!

I find most of the enthusiasm for "next generation" conservative hosts to be from the primarily older conservative talk audience. I don't think these hosts are lowering the demos much or having younger listeners find them especially relevant. It's still AM talk radio that's out of synch with the political and social values of younger audiences.

Her linkedin has her graduating from PC in 2014, which, if she was 21-22 back then, puts her just shy of 30.

Word is that Howie Carr plans to give up his studio at the undisclosed location in Needham at the end of his lease. Grace and Howie will broadcast their programs from the IHEART studios in Medford.

Heard Howie say he's back in Mass. for awhile. While he does own a condo in Florida and may have sold his Wellsley house maybe this is a sign HCRN will originate from iHR in Medford or somewhere else in area for awhile...have not heard about whether it's at iHeart of not
other than the post above.

"that twit on from noon to three" actually does a decent job and I'll have to retract my prediction that her show would be One Chick Dishing.

Wasn't he using/renting a studio from Barry Armstrong at one time? Is this the same studio?

Howie says Caitlin >>>Jennings<<<< is running for Governor of CA. SMH, LMAO, he does a spot for Balance 7 which gives him 'clarity', hmmmm, I don't think so!
