12 yrs ago CBS announced Sports Hub, end of BCN

@bostonradio reminded us on Twitter that 12 years ago CBS announced WBMX move to 104.1 to make room for new all sports WBZ-FM at 98.5, with WBCN to go away--moves that would take place a month later.
Entercom took just over 2 years to finally put their sports station on FM.
Would WBCN rise again somehow? Maybe not
but I don't know if anyone has those calls now.
CBS parked them on a NC station, Beasley got
it in a swap, then went dark last Dec 31

Not without their permission. Also if search for Trademarks at Search trademark database You'll see Audacy has WBCN and The Rock Of Boston Trademarked. Not sure how that would hold up if you had the call sign but folks are still trying to protect it to some degree.

I am headed to my house in Fort Myers in a couple of weeks, maybe I can go get a bumper sticker or a Tee shirt

Maybe Bells has a WBCN Rock Shop ( or whatever they called it) like one of the department stores had back in the day

(Bells is a regional clothing store in FL)

WBCN was long since a shell of its former self by then. To me, they started going downhill once they got bought by Hemisphere, and were already no longer worth listening to when they went with junk programming in the early 1990s.

To me the only way to bring it back is for Audacy to do so, but they have more investment with WAAF. Beasley is invested right now with WBOS, but I see them bringing the WBCN calls back for the Sports Hub, should they need to change the WBZ-FM calls. It wouldn't be a rock format, just a way using calls that are identifiable with the city.

What is this "investment with WAAF" of which you speak? Sailed did that ship, no?

Meaning that they have a HD-2 automated with the WAAF name. If they were to bring back an active or mainstream rock formatted station, I see them bringing back WAAF before starting back up WBCN from scratch.

If you told me back in the 80s and 90s that in 2021, WBCN and WFNX would no longer exist; and there would be substations on frequencies called "HD Radio," and the only way to listen to "WAAF" would be on 104.1's HD substation, my head would explode.
Oooh, good one: WAAF broadcasting on 104.1, longtime home of WBCN!

You can also listen to “WAAF” on 93.7 HD2.
Yes you can, but a younger me wouldn't have thought much of that. It was specifically that there is no more WBCN; yet if you used that "HD Radio that they told me about about," I could go to 104.1 to hear WAAF.
