would all sinatra on a sub work

Why not program an all Frank format on one of the subs, WOGL HD4 would be a great candidate, Phillies 24/7, oy vey what is the purpose of that. Or maybe on a better audio HD2 on another signal, There is a very big Sinatra cult audience all ages, in the area, proven by Sid Mark over the years. can't hurt, plus many of his older fans drive brand new cars with HD radios.

You mean like what this station in LA is doing?

What it takes is for someone to want to do it. Not very likely at a corporate station. So who are the local owners in Philadelphia?

Glad someone is trying it, I think there are tons more Sinatra fans in the Delaware valley, so why not, utilize one of the stagnant subs.

Work is a relative term. Would it make money? No. Would effectively anyone hear it? No. Would it cost money? Yes.

If you consider a money sucking hobby as working, sure. As a business model? No.

I think Sirius still has a Sinatra channel. Last time I was in Luigi's, they were playing it. If people want it bad enough, they can subscribe.

But 24/7 broadcast means they have to find a lot of advertisers. Right now, WPHT can only sustain it for a few hours Sunday morning.

You need to have someone with money and time to blow on making it happen, like Saul Levine with KKGO. Audacy or iHeart aren't going to do it because it's not something they can monetize. They'd sooner put a national format on or rent out the signal.

I agree on just about everything but I wonder about the money part. BEN-FM had that stale Dance side-channel for years and years and it sounded to me like it was thrown together in not much more than a day--assumedly by someone who already was on the payroll and who (from the sound of it) clicked PLAY and never thought about it again. Sure it kinda sucked because years and years of new material was coming out but the library never changed. But here, we're talking about Sinatra. I don't think Ol' Blue Eyes is going to be putting out any new records at this point. 🤣🤣

But seriously, folks: Someone would have to want to do it literally for the sake of doing it. We're basically talking about replacing one side channel no one listens to with another side channel no one listens to.

Comparing the LA station and what theyre doing to ANYONE else is unfair.. It's Saul Levine.. hes older than the hills, eccentric and very rich, he can do whatever he wants.. he can afford to change formats more than some people change their underwear

SiriusXM does have a Sinatra channel, but it plays other artists such as Tony Bennett and Dean Martin, so it is not all Sinatra all the time like it is with the Los Angeles HD station.

the amount of space left by the time you get to HD4 is so tiny it really can't support music at any level you would want to listen to it at.

So your first obstacle is your P1 for a Sinatra themed format is not only ancient and unsellable to any advertiser worth having, but there are very few HD tabletop radios, so getting Grandma to buy a elusive table top HD radio is going to be near impossible... and even if they had a car with a HD radio, your P1 is someone you don't want driving!

My Mom knows enough to tell Alexa to play "Sirius XM Sinatra", or "alexa play Frank Sinatra songs" ( I got Prime Music so she could do exactly that) or "Alexa SiriusXM Fourties Junction"... in her last car she couldn't figure out how to turn the radio on, let alone find a HD4

I’m reasonably tech savvy and in my partner’s car, HD is such a convoluted mess to get to I would never be bothered even when sitting still. While driving, it would near certainly result in a distracted driving crash.

HD amounts to translator/stream feeders and vanity/hobby projects. That ship sailed.

One of my cars has HD radio, I really like it

Music in HD is wonderful, and I can listen to the only 2 AM stations in my market on their HD2 counterparts and it sounds infinitely better

The FCC should mandate it like they did FM and quality UHF tuners

I sold my car about 7 years ago because I live and work in the city so it was just wasted money. I'm moving to the burbs so I just bought a new car. It's perfect for me but it doesn't have HD radio, which I was really hoping for. Alas, I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in the car even once! Apple Car Play does so many things and one of them is pretty much eliminating the need for a radio at all! Still, if the radio had HD, I probably would use it once in a while just to see what's going on with those side-channels. All that having been said, it is not the point of why I'm replying here. haha.

I'm wondering why it's so hard in your partner's car to get to the side-channels. In my most recent car, I was able to assign the side-channels to pre-set buttons which eliminated any fumbling. In my previous cars, I would tune to a station and wait until HD locked in (2 seconds) and then there was one button to press to cycle through the side-channels. What kinda car/radio does your partner have?

Honda from about 5-6 years ago. It’s really not intuitive. I can program them once finding them, but getting to them is nowhere near as simple—nearly anything else can mostly be accomplished with the steering wheel controls, even if it’s a bit longer to, say, cycle through XM to FM to AM to aux input.

Even without Car Play, just using Bluetooth and Siri voice control covers plenty. I have XM fairly cheap. Even if Batman’s butler Alfred was there to do nothing but control the radio to my liking, there’s nothing on HD channels here that remotely interest me. 😂
