KYRK 106.5 The Shark becomes Fantango Radio

I was in Corpus on July 31 listening terrestrially and KYRK was still ID’ing as 106-5 The Shark. I’m also really sure KYRK was still calling themselves “The Shark,” earlier this week (Aug 11), but I’m not sure.

As of today, their moniker is “106-5 Fantango Radio,” and their call letters were still KYRK, and the city of license is still Taft.

The playlist is still the same, with songs like Offspring’s “Let the Bad Times Roll” and X-Ambassador’s “Renegades,” as well as “Potions” by Daywave played when I tuned in via the TuneIn app today. I don’t believe the format has changed, because the playlist is the same, but the moniker has definitely changed.

Where does the Fantango come from? I just checked the TuneIn app on my PC and still says The Shark visually on the interface.
However the ID I heard now says Fantango.

The actual name is "Bandtango". God only knows the thought process.

Band Tango? Maybe because some Alternative artists are creative musically... I still like The Shark better though.

Okay I was unsure about “Fantango,” but “Bandtango” doesn’t make any more sense.
I like “The Shark” for selfish reasons, but as long as they don’t flip formats, I’m happy.

I recorded/edited a clip of their Internet stream with 2 ID messages. https://sndup.net/88bk/a
Their website still says The Shark all over it. KYRK-FM 106.5 The Shark
As does their Facebook page. Log into Facebook
It sounded like "Bandtango" or "Fantango" when I heard it, but the sound effects make it difficult to tell. I guess we'll know when they update their website and social media profiles.

Interesting quote from RadioInsight article linked above...
"Quinn, a former radio programmer turned artist manager, has utilized the Bandtango brand previously for an artists rights management system and streaming audio platform. The groups are planning a future “Bandtango Media Festival” for the station in Corpus Christi."

Bandtango radio is still going strong. When I drive to Corpus, I start to pick them up in Tivoli but don’t get a clear signal until Rockport. I mostly listen to them via Tune In on Alexa.

Bandtango Radio is still listenable via Alexa or bandtangoradio.com, but is no longer listed on radio-locator.com.

Seems ominous.

I haven't been to Corpus recently to see if the station is available terrestrially on 106.5FM. I'll create an excuse to head over there soon to confirm it still exists on the radio dial.

Hey guys, glad to report 106.5 BANDTANGO Radio is very much alive and kicking in Corpus Christi. We're closing in on 10 months broadcasting on 106.5 FM. Unfortunately our live stream is temporarily down as we transition to a new streaming service. I'm PD and also host of our local morning show which regularly features local business owners and political figures as well as ALTERNATIVE artists when they make their way to Corpus. I'm really glad to see that you are enjoying the format. I appreciate and always welcome any feedback you may have!

We had 311 in town in last month. Here's my interview with bassist, PNut, leading up to the show.
311 on Twitter: "Hear @pnut chat with 106.5 FM, Corpus Christi, TX ...

Thanks for checking in! I was concerned when your livestream was down. I haven't been to Corpus in awhile so I wasn't able to check to see if you were still available on a terrestrial basis. Love the station and I wish you guys nothing but the best.
