More changes at TSM Buffalo?

There’s an “immediate need” for a “Director of Content”…Chris Crowley’s listed as WYRK Brand Manager while Joe Chille moves back into management as Brand Manager of The Breeze…

Chris Crowley is leaving at the end of the month, as reported by Country Aircheck:

Townsquare/Buffalo Dir./Content & Country WYRK Brand Mgr. Chris Crowley will leave at the end of the month for an unnamed opportunity. He joined in 2018 and was named to his current post last year. Crowley's prior career stops include then-Entercom/Portland, OR; Meridian/Ft. Myers; Cumulus/Eugene, OR; and iHeartMedia/Anchorage, AK.

Other trades are reporting he is looking for his next opportunity. Maybe the Val Townsend thing was a factor in his departure?

Or perhaps he was pushed. It happens.
I suspect that the choice was his. If he were pushed, it would be an immediate cut. "Hand over your playbook and key fob. Here's your check. Good luck. There's the door."

Country Aircheck reports that Townsquare's Chris Crowley is heading to iHeart Charlotte:

Departing Townsquare/Buffalo Dir./Content & Country WYRK Brand Mgr. Chris Crowley will join iHeartMedia/Charlotte & Raleigh, NC as PD for Classic Rock WRFX & Alternative WEND/Charlotte and Classic Rock WRDU & Alternative WDCG-HD2/Raleigh Oct. 1.

If he's smart, he'll rent - not buy.

Did you ever consider the idea that Crowley was following orders with WBUF? And WYRK for that matter? TSM is a very top-down company. Their model is working in the small markets that dominate their portfolio. Not so well in bigger markets where they have a lot more competition.

Good luck to Crowley. Now "tbolt" has another chance to show present his formula for success to a group in Buffalo with some pretty good facilities that are under-performing.

Of course he was following the corporate mandates. Don't be naive. Corporate will still hold the PD responsible when the format fails. He found a better opportunity and took it. Iheart, Cumulus, and Audacy are just as "Top Down" in their approach...

Bigger markets. Plural. Charleston, and Raleigh-Durham, each market is growing and expanding. Two similar formats on both stations, Classic Rock and Alternative. iHeart made a smart hire. TSQ's next Ops Manager will have a lot on his/her plate, primarily how to get 92.9, and to a lesser extent 96.1 back in Persons 25-54 contention. At one time, each of these stations was a force; 92.9 with Men; 96.1 with Women. WYRK and WBLK are set, largely because their formats are well-defined, properly executed, and legacies.

There are differences in how top-down Cumulus, Audacy, iHeart, and TSQ are. Local management has considerably more control at some companies than they do at others. That's subject to change, as we've seen at Audacy recently. Cumulus is much top-down than it was during the Dickey era.

I wouldn’t call them “set”. ‘BLK is still in need of a PD (brand manager) then there’s the WYRK morning show turmoil exposed by Val Townsend which Crowley’s replacement may or may not have to straighten out.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they make Joe Chille the OM. He’s had the job before.
