20th anniversary of 9/11 on TV

These tv events are rare thankfully. When they do occur mistakes happen but usually are corrected. There will be the next one, nobody knows when or what. Such is life in 21st century America. But in the end tv is still the best way to reach most of us. Perhaps this will change in coming decades, but for now tv still reigns.
Some people would argue radio is a more effective medium its certainly more widely available than tv.

That's what I said. The Giants played at Denver(Not the Meadowlands)on Monday September 10. The attack was the next day. What is the significance of the "last game before 9/11"? What about the last game before COVID? Or the last game in Oakland?

The Super Bowl winner has been hosting a Thursday night game for many years. The exception was a few years ago when New England hosted a Sunday night game. I thought Americans liked winners. Tom Brady is a winner. I still don't get your connection with the NFL and a terrorist attack...
No. That's NOT what you said. You said EVERYTHING BUT the Thursday Night game was played on Sunday, which WAS NOT true

Don't believe me?? Go back & re-read your post

OBTW - It was the Ravens who won the Super Bowl in 2000.Whether they played the Raiders to open the 2001 season or not, I can't argue either way but THEY DID open up the 2011 season on the road against the Broncos IN DENVER after beating the 49ers in the Super Bowl, but THAT was because of A SCHEDULING CONFLICT with Camden Yards, which shares a parking lot with the Ravers stadium & the Orioles were at home on THAT Thursday Night

That is THE ONLY time I'm aware of that the Super Bowl Champion DID NOT open the season at home

Pat

Probably.

Of all the things people are going to remember and mark as observances, who played where in a sports event the day before is simply not one. There is zero meaningful connection between what the last pro sports event was, and the 20th year commemoration.
Well, you're going to HATE the fact that history bears you out on the connection part

THAT BEING SAID - It's a moot point now, at least for the next 4 years or so when the world commemorates the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, at which point this might come up again 🤣😂🙅‍♀️

ABC and CBS are showing the memorials live. NBC was showing their regular E/I programming followed by soccer. Fox is showing college football. I'm not surprised that Fox isn't doing anything since they don't have news on their OTA network, but I'm surprised NBC isn't doing anything.
FOX doesn't have news on the OTA network but it doesn't mean Fox News couldn't run simulcast with the OTA network for the special occasion though

No I didn't say that. You should re-read it.
The Giants vs Broncos game was played the day the before 9/11 attack. That was Monday 9/10/2001. People remember 9/11, not a Monday night game the day before.

No games were played Week 2 after 9/11. They were all postponed. They were rescheduled at the end of the season. That's what you didn't understand...

No I understand it. In fact, I KNOW the Week 2 games were all rescheduled as "Week 18" games

And in re-reading your post, I discovered we were BOTH right as you also mentioned the Giants & Broncos played on 9/10/01

But it STILL would've been good PR for the NFL to have DONE SOMETHING to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. Instead it DID NOTHING (Not even in Tampa on Thursday Night)

You mean the league that puts on over-the-top displays of "look at me" patriotism displays on a regular basis? That league?

Not everything needs a giant show of tying into that commemoration.

Why should it come up again? Even fewer people than no one will care about what game was played the night before. It's irrelevant.

also, the Bucs played The Cowboys on the exact same date 20 years apart (September 9th both in 2001 and this year) and both time, The Bucs won the game and the attention for Cowboys fans that game was the QB situation (in the 2001 season, it was about rookie QB Quincy Carter taking over from Troy Aikman who just retired from football due to concussions and neck/back injuries he was suffering at the end of his career, and this year, the QB situation was about Dak Prescott's comeback from a season ending broken ankle injury as well as his recent freak (by football standards, as it's a typical Baseball injury) shoulder injury during the pre-season/training camp.).

NJ Burkett of WABC-TV and this segment was also used on ABC News for their 9/11 coverage where they witnessed the destruction of the Twin Towers.
